Absolutely filthy - worst hotel experience ever!!!!I stayed at this hotel with my husband for two nights. We arrived at the hotel late and were able to get into the property fine with the code key. Our room was on the ground floor to the rear of the property with views of a brick wall. We were struck instantly with the smell of an old pub in the hallway where the carpet had retained the smell of cigarette smoke. Unfortunately the smell did not improve when we entered our room. Upon entering the room our faces and arms were immediately met with brushing away cobwebs. The carpet and furniture was extremely dated and worn away. The furniture (wardrobe and side table) was depressing and felt like someone had picked them up cheap in a car boot sale or collected from somewhere that had wanted to give away furnishing for free. The carpet was stained and dirty. We refused to walk barefoot it was that dirty. The skirting board was layered with dust and the room had spiders/ spider webs in each corner (see pictures). The toaster was filthy, the kettle full of limescale and very outdated. The hotel had failed to even clear out the drawers from the last guests which had garbage contained including a toe nail clipper! The shower had streaks of shampoo of the last resident which had not been cleaned. It took about 5 minuets for the water to run before the water turned hot. The TV was the smallest TV we had ever seen, practically thumbnail size! When we turned it on, the TV had red steaks that ran down the right hand side. The beds were ok. However we were concerned about the cleanliness of the sheets and towels particularly if the state of the room was anything to go by! Our sleep was constantly disturbed and woken up by the mini fridge turning itself on with a loud hum every 30minutes. We left sandwiches in the fridge which turned completely soggy overnight due to the fridge turning itself on and off. We had intended to have a lie in the final day. However we found a huge spider in our clothes left on the dusty shelves. At that point we decided to pack our belongings to immediately leave. When we arrived at our car which was parked on the street parking overnight we had noticed that someone had stubbed their cigarette on the plastic part of the windscreen so it is certainly not safe to leave your car overnight. Whilst I appreciate that this is budget accommodation you would expect the owners would at least clean the property. It was absolutely filthy and the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Never again! I would highly recommend people to AVOID booking this hotel.

Perfect for meI stayed here for the Cheltenham Cricket Festival, July 2018. Yes, it was a curious arrangement. It is more like an apartment, but in this big splendid Regency house. It has a big lovely garden out back. You don't really see anyone but can come and go as you place - just make sure you have the codes written down. It was perfect for me as I'm a bit of a night owl, and I'm not really a Breakfasty chap. I generally am happy with a cup of team (there are facilities for this) The decor was a bit run down maybe but it had character - I prefer this to modern business hotels. I quite liked it. I brought a portable fan for the heat as we were having a tremendous heat wave; I could imagine people struggling without a fan so I would take a fan if it is summer. The croissant was a bit disgusting mind, with chocolate inside. My only slight gripe was it was a bit of a walk towards the town centre (and then the cricket venue) but perfectly possible if in reasonable fitness. I would certainly consider staying again if I return to the Cheltenham Cricket Fest. Thanks very much.

Kingsmuir Hotel, 3 stars ?I booked this accommodation, through lastminute.com, based on the reviews that it had on the Kingsmuir website and that it is rated as a three stars establishment. I booked on the afternoon before the stay so attempted to contact the Kingsmuir to clarify when I would get the access codes for the premises. It took four attempts at ringing the contact number, given on the website, before the answering service worked properly and I was able to leave a message. I received no response to my message. I eventually received the e-mail with the details of the access codes at 09:35 on the day I was due to travel, 30 minutes after we should have left home. Had the details not arrived before I left for Cheltenham I may well have been stuck when I arrived, given that I can only access e-mail from my home computer and that there seemed to be problems with the contact number for the Kingsmuir. We didnt see a single member of staff during our stay. For approximately 15 rooms there were only 2 off street parking spaces. There would have been 3 if it wasnt for the presence of a dark blue Vauxhall that had clearly not been moved for some time. It was covered in dust and bird droppings and was boxed in with an old wooden pallet. All the on-street parking on The Circus was taken. No free parking permits were available, so Monday Saturday inclusive you have to pay for parking. Parking was further limited because the owner of a garage on the premises required access to their garage between around 8 am and 4pm, thus losing a further parking spot. On street parking in the area was not unlimited on the day we arrived and had we not been able to park off street at the accommodation parking would have been a real challenge. The room was clearly part of a larger room that had been divided through the middle of the window, the one curtain was ill fitting and lacked blackout lining so the sun wakes you at dawn. There was a nice view of The Circus grass and mature trees from the ½ window. The bed frame had been broken on the blind side of the bed and roughly repaired externally to the frame, so that you discovered this by stubbing your toes several times. The bed was too hard for even a 12 stone man to be able to get comfortable on, resulting in broken sleep and painful shoulders & backs after 7 hours in bed. The two chairs provided had loose seats. The wardrobe had a mark on one door that looked like dried blood. The microwave in the room still had crumbs on the turntable from the previous guest. The one teaspoon was dirty, we discovered a second tucked away in the bottom of the wardrobe whilst checking we had left nothing behind. The TV, even BBC1, was unwatchable due to a poor signal causing a broken picture. In the bathroom the mirror was hung on the wall using a piece of 13-amp earth wire. The join between the taps and sink needed a good scrub with a toothbrush. The bathmat was on the towel rail. The continental breakfast provided in our room comprised, 3 tins of fruit, only instant coffee and 1 sort of tea, UHT milk, two croissants made with vegetable fat filled with chocolate flavoured vegetable fat filling, 1 banana, two apples, two slices of only white sliced bread and 3 cereals. I know of nowhere in Europe where this passes as a continental breakfast, where were the meats (advertised on the Kingsmuir home page) and choice of continental cheeses and breads, and all butter croissant? There were, however, two good quality yoghurts, full fat and zero artificial sweetener. The breakfast was so poor that we bought our own. In the kitchen on the first floor there were further cereals available along with a selection of jams. The fridge in the kitchen contained an open pack of cheap sliced ham and an open packet of sausages, both occupied the same shelf. The Kingsmuir does not meet the standard of any of the three-star guest houses or bed and breakfasts that I have stayed at. For the money I paid a three-star B&B would have served me a choice of high-quality continental or cooked breakfast with fresh coffee and a choice of teas, provided adequate free parking facilities and a well-furnished clean room. We would have been personally welcomed and bade goodbye. At 8.15 on Sunday morning there was loud hammering in the building. We would expect any maintenance to be carried out between 10 am and 2pm. The location of the Kingsmuir was as described, within easy walking distance of all of the attractions of Cheltenham, estimated times quoted on the website from the Kingsmuir to key attractions were accurate and the area was quiet during the evening.

AwfulBooked this as our usual choices were fully booked. Wish I hadn't. Old and in need of a major update. Room was grubby in a tired sense. Room nearby had dogs that constantly barked when there was any noise, emailed the contact at 9.50pm but I'm still waiting for a response. Only staff person we saw was a gardener. The breakfast is a joke. Few slices of bread in Tupperware tub. Tesco value tinned fruit and cheap pastries. 2 types of cereal, uht milk to go with it. No meats and cheese as was stated. Confirmation email said 11am check out but large notice on door said 10am. Which is it. Not that it mattered as we left at 8.30 to go for a proper breakfast. Parking is an issue. Website states plenty of on street parking. We drove round the circus 3 times. And Other streets until we managed to find a spot. Towels were old and shower just an over bath controlled from bath taps. It's a shame as it could be lovely if some money was spent on it. The charge for 1 night was ridiculous for the quality. Won't stay again. Not even 1 star but can't put none.

Decent, but temper any expectationsCheap by Cheltenham standards, clean enough and functional, so perfectly acceptable for the price. However, Id say the 3 star rating is misleading. In my mind it suggests a level of service and decor that the hotel just doesnt meet. Everything is very basic, and it clearly hasnt been decorated for some time. If it had been advertised as a 2 star Id probably have given it an extra mark, but as I said - decent value for cheltenham
