  We were attending a funeral nestby

  We had a lovely stay here. Brenda and Lizzy made us so welcome. They were kind helpful and efficient. The hotel is a bit tired but that really didnt matter. We enjoyed walking around Godalming. Lots of interesting little shops and good restaurants. We will go back to this hotel under happier circumstances.

  Comfortable and quiet

  Nice characterful hotel (quirky arrangement of stairs between floors). Good quiet location in town centre. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable. However, radiator in our room wasnt working and member of staff had no idea why. We eventually worked out ourselves that previous guests had turned the radiator off (control knob hidden by curtain/furniture). Staff should have checked that. Also, light above washbasin didnt work. When we queried this we were simply told its broken. No attempt was made to change the light tube. Food was OK, but on both mornings the dining room floor was being mopped while everyone was eating breakfast and the strong smell of disinfectant was overpowering.

  Disappointed....

  We were told on arrival that we had the best room in the place, so were really looking forward to seeing it. The room on first sight looked nice, huge king size bed, sofa and a couple of chairs, beautiful bathroom with walk-in shower and roll top bath. However, one bed size light had no bulb in it, the other one had been smashed and badly repaired, so creating a hazard. One shower bulb wasn't working, same with the hairdryer.....Despite signs downstairs saying the place had been re-furnished in 2019, this had clearly not included room 1! It should have been so luxurious, but was tired and shabby. Also the room was at the front of the building, overlooking the road, so plenty of traffic noise, and bin men at 6am!!! We didn't stick around to sample the breakfasts. On handing in our key, we weren't asked if everything had been ok, which speaks volumes. Good job we'd got the room for a bargain price, as I'd have been very disappointed paying full price!

  Tired and Shabby

  Cheap enough but I am sure people would prefer to pay a little more if it meant some money could be spent on a refurb. The carpeting is ancient, my room was shabby, holes in the walls, a filthy window, dated furniture and an old mattress. Bed linen clean and shower worked well and bathroom clean. Depends what you want I guess. These days I expect more

  A hotel in need of love

  I visited the hotel and found it closed at 4.00, the bar and restaurant were also closed Monday until Wednesday due to COVID. The manager let me in and was very friendly, however I was surprised how shabby the hotel was and the rooms could do with a good lick of paint and a clean, When I left no one asked me how was my stay, the place needs a good refurbish, such a shame.
