Horizontal FallsThe whole place looked run-down. For not-so-nimble, the access was poor and we had a room that was remote from the entry. Food was available, though we didn't eat there. Off-street parking is available, but a long way from our room.

Needs new owners & upgradeMy wife & I stayed here last night. I note the last review is dated August 2017. Things have deteriorated even more since then. Upon arrival the driveway is broken & shattered concrete with major weed infestation. All gardens and are dry & dead with no sign of attempts at making the entrance or any other part of the hotel presentable. The reception was closed and the number to ring failed to answer. Waited a while & tried again. Person responding had no knowledge of any guests to check in. She attended, found our booking & advised us we were the only guests for the entire hotel. Somewhat eerie & more like a horror movie script. She inquired as to whether or not we required meals. Despite all advertising the restaurant and bars are all closed. Her surprise at us checking in was accompanied with the comment "It has been like this for 2 years". The room was very basic but clean, equipped with one of the oldest TVs you could imagine. There was coffee & tea making supplied however the kettle did not fit under the washbasin tap so half the water was lost upon removing it. We had to source our own meals elsewhere. There was no mention regarding internet or Wi-Fi. Our recommendation is to avoid this hotel until new owners are found and a complete refurbishment is undertaken. There are several other much better options in Derby.

Old but goodWhen you enter the King Sound Resort it feels like you have stepped back in time. I can see that when it opened in the 80s it would have been the best hotel in the area. The hotel is huge, but it appears only some of the rooms are being used. The restaurant area is clean and comfortable with good pub food and pool tables. The staff a very friendly and helpful. The pool area is great with a shade sail and seating. Rooms are old, but clean. I would recommend if youre not looking for accommodation that isnt the newest, but decent.

Took a step back in timeI stayed with my family at this resort for one night before doing the Horizontal Falls tour. The beds were comfortable, the shower was good and cars are kept secure in a locked parking area. On the other hand, some of the lights in our room didnt work and the whole resort in general is very run-down and could do with some renovations and refurbishment. I felt like we stepped back into the 80s, and Im sure it would have been a great hotel in its time. In addition, when we went to check in there was no one there at the reception desk, it felt like the whole place was abandoned. When we rang the contact number there was also no answer. We eventually got to check in by contacting the Derby Visitor Centre first.
