Got What I NeededWhen reviewing hotels one needs to be fair and grade them according to the type of place they are. This is a budget hotel and so must be reviewed as one. When staying for a night in a budget hotel, all I want is the following: Friendly greeting - got one A comfortable room - got one A good night's sleep - got one A reasonable breakfast - got one It was functional and that was what I paid for. The lady serving breakfast didn't do smiles, so after realising this I didn't expect, nor got. one from her. The recpetionist on arrival was cheerful, but turned out to be the janitor too when she had to come upm and replace my bedside lamp bulb, and then said she would cook me anything if I wanted room service as the chef had gone home at 8pm. I didn't take her up on it. The room was quiet, but did have a sticky, jammy blob or two on the desk which I had to clean. Besides that it was functional and I would return

DO NOT STAY HEREAbsolutely disgusting hotel, definitely worth paying more money to stay at the Yew Lodge up the road. Pubes on the bathroom floor, bathroom bin not emptied from previous occupants, mould in the bathroom and on the fan, plug socket not working properly, rusty shower rail, bedside table draw nailed shut, room looked as though it'd barely been cleaned, minimal towels and toiletries and dirty linen left in the corridor all day. I had checked into the hotel to spend some time with my parents who live in the village, I ended up having to take some of their toilet roll as the hotel had provided only half a role, and the room was not cleaned at all during our stay, despite putting the sign on the door. The key cards have to be reactivated each time you leave as they apparently deactivate when near a car key or credit card??? We had a very unhelpful greeting, the front door was locked and it wasn't mentioned anywhere to use the side entrance. This was only the beginning of our issues, we tried to return to the room at 11pm to find all doors to the building locked, had to call the hotel to ask them to let us in and we stood waiting for 5 minutes for someone to turn up! The following morning tried to leave at 10:30 to find all the doors to the building locked again, no one on reception and no one answered the number we were provided. Eventually we got out via a fire exit. This leads onto the massive health and safety issue- 2 fire escapes to the building were permanently propped open with fire extinguishers!!! The hotel seems to have been completely abandoned and they think it's appropriate to trap guests in and not let them in or out. The whole place is a ghost town. Anyone could just walk up the fore escape and enter the hotel from the back. £42 per night we paid, I would have felt ripped off if we'd paid a tenner. I'd be surprised if this hotel was still open at Christmas. My other half said that the bathroom was so dirty that there's probably new penicillin growing in there. The only positive is that the bed was comfortable and we had a decent nights sleep.

Could do better....We arrived recently as a stop over night on a trip down the country, weve stayed here a few times before although ownership has transferred to OYO since our last visit. We arrived and were assigned our room with the staff on the desk pleasant and ensuring we completed the Covid requirements. Arriving in our room we found it was pretty much the Kegworth Hotel of our previous stays, theres no getting around it, the place is looking a bit dated and tired in 2020 (although I imagine it was cool back in 93....), this however doesnt bother me, for £40 a night I expect not a great deal more than clean and friendly, this place was both and a minute off the M1. However, and I only mention this to inspire improvement. We arrived and got to our room about 7:30pm, come 8pm there was a knock at the door with two blokes bringing a replacement TV as they knew the one in the room was faulty (we had figured this out just before but werent bothered enough to do anything about it). The TVs are hardwired into the wall rather than a domestic plug and socket, this process involved around 40 minutes of these two blokes having to pull out the whole desk/tv stand unit, being unable to wire it back in, eventually succeeding to only find theyd wired in the TV theyd just removed, wiring in the new TV to find that didnt work either. Id told them multiple times I wasnt bothered about having a TV tonight to which I was told Theyll only make me do it tomorrow so I may as well do it now........ yes but the room is empty tomorrow. Inconvenient and a bit annoying in normal times but during the current Covid climate having two people enter a room, that we trust had been sanitised prior to guest arrival, without wearing any PPE gloves or masks and shifting furniture, moving our belongings etc is unacceptable. In my opinion the Duty Manager should have knocked on the door and explained the situation with the TV and if we were bothered then offered to swap rooms, if no alternative available and we were wanting a TV we should have been explained that this will take half an hour max and we will sanitise any affected areas and touch points once complete. If that had happened we would have said it was fine, we can live without TV for a night. Like I say earlier, its a budget hotel that ticks the boxes of being clean, friendly and convenient. Although the TV business was highly inappropriate and handled poorly I dont doubt that anyone involved intentions were anything but good. Hopefully they can learn from this. P.S The comedy show of two blokes trying to wire a two wire TV set into the wall was better than any comedy show Ive seen in a while, especially as the louder mouthed one of the two kept proclaiming he was the only one who knows how to do this!

Exhibition WeekendThe hotel has recently been refurbished giving it a clean modern look reception, bar and dining area. The bedroom was clean and spacious with a very comfortable and large bed. Meals were tasty. It is situated close to major roads, rail link, airport and bus routes. Really could not fault anything.

Always enjoyableStayed here many times for business and even during the current Covid situation it's great. Staff are friendly and welcoming and my room was clean and spacious. No complaints about the food, so all good.
