We will definitely recommend a stay at Kedar

Perfect place for a stay while visiting Pilanesberg, we had the very pleasant surprise to be offered a guided tour of the artefacts and collections about the South African Wars, we had dinner next to a fire outside with a historian and the next morning he took our little group around the hotel and it was very interesting to learn about the history of the region and the Anglo-Boer battles in the Magaliesberg. The garden is beautiful too, we did not have time to stay for a spa treatment or to enjoy the pool so and we regret it so we have decided we have to come back. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Very nice staff too. We advise travelers to stop there it is really worth a visit and a stay. Only 1,5 hour to 2 hours away from Johannesburg.

Luxurious Lodge with martial atmosphere close to Pilanesberg NP

Kedar Lodge is close to Rustenburg, which you dont have to visit, but more important close to Pilanesberg NP, which we loved from the start, seeing close to everything. The lodge is some kind of martial arts museum, lots of weapons hanging around everywhere, also statues of Smuts, Ghandi, even old Winnie Churchil, reason behind not understood, but OK ! The rooms were quite luxurious, in midth of a jungle garden with lots of birds and their noise lovely! Also we had 5 very loud noises within 24 hrs, we learned that it were alarms, obviously people from outside, they told us to mow the gras that they can be spotted more easily. The staff is very very friendly, the breakfast despite all weapons hanging around (should have taken some home..) gorgeous and of broad variety. Lunch and dinner were not so convincing: manual is 90 % about meat and steaks with historical names and descriptions nobody is interested in and good for confusion, I ordered an expensive steak but it was close to leather and I had to give it back, ordering fish, salad of my wife was good, meat seems to be local and if you see the poor local creatures, meagre and tough, they have nothing to do with a Brazil angus steak etc! Bill of cost is also complicated, they differ between meals and drinks, obviously out of old IT systems, but hard to check, therefore advise to write down daily expenses that you have a clear picture. All in all, despite weaknesses, very nice lodge, we would come back any time!

    A heritage gem

Anyone who is passionate about South African heritage cannot miss a visit to this Lodge. The South African (Anglo Boer) War collection is superb: professionally curated and narrated and numbering hundreds of artifacts and relics. The tour conducted by Edward to Boekenhoutfontein, Krugers farm, is so informative and the Farm exquisitely preserved. Thank you Kedar for protecting this gem, or it may well have gone the way of other heritage sites. Thank you Pieter for your knowledge and passion. The lodge itself is tasteful and authentic and set in beautiful trees...which present opportunities for wonderful birding.

POOR QUALITY OF HOTEL & AMENITIES

To celebrate a special occasion, this place was recommended on a FB group. Pieter Kruger was helpful in planning our special weekend. Booking confirmation stated that the TV's were not in working order. I asked if this would still be the case when we had planned to visit and was assured that the TV would be working . Pieter upgraded our room at no additional charge. Upon arrival the TV was not working. The "spa" pool was green & dirty. The steam & sauna facilities were being used as storage space. The main pool area was disaster! The grass was overgrown & the pool was dirty. We were not able to utilize any of the facilities. We explained this to Pieter and asked for a refund. He told us he could not refund us immediately, as he needed to log the issue with Head Office. Pieter assured us he would fast track the refund. We went to Sun City, as this was the closest resort. We begged & pleaded our case to the Manager at the Cabanas and they were able to accommodate us. Understanbly, we were now in a HUGE financial predicament. Despite various emails & phone calls last week, no refund has been forthcoming. Last Friday, Pieter called stating that Head Office were "investigating" the matter. The lady "dealing" with the matter is Adele Forsyth. Despite numerous messages left for her, I've yet to have received a call. Nearly 2 weeks later, we are still out of pocket - just over R3000! The way "management" has dealt with this matter is disgusting. To be out of pocket is grossly unfair.
