Trip from Hell - property rental manager Liana Brunnert

I have never experienced a more unprofessional, incompetent, and outright lying rental agent. My travel partner a lower back problem and while renting through VRBO.com we inquired about the firmness of the bed. We communicated this clearly, and Lianas response was that the bed was very firm and a non-issue. That is the first problem. When we arrived we were shocked that the bed was not only a soft bed, but the bed was in such bad condition that it would give you a back problem if you dont already have one. The problem got exponentially worse. Having nowhere else to go and not knowing what to do we contacted Liana and expressed our concern. She offered to move to another place across the street which was twice as expensive. She refused to match the price and blamed us for saying that she has never had this problem before. We had to spend the entire day simply asking her for a full refund so that we could look for another place without any certainty of even finding one. To be clear, the problem is not the bed, the problem is lying about the bed and the greediness of some rental property managers and what they will go to for a dollar. After several hours of unneccessary and taxing conversation on the first day of our vacation, she advised she would fully refund the stay and allow us one night stay to sleep on the ground of the unit, in order for us to find another place. This is where the dishonesty gets more ugly. She did not as promised honor her word again. And did not issue a full refund given the nightmarish experience of dealing with there and this rental. After very clearly stating there would not be a cleaning fee, she has now stated that there is a cleaning fee of $135. We strongly recommend you do not rent from her or anyone who is not connected to the Hawaiian community and culture or understand the true meaning of Aloha.

    Nice Timeshare Exchange

We exchanged for two weeks for a 1 bdrm 1 bath sleeps 4. You will need a car. It is 20 minutes from the airport, 30 min to the main town Kaunakakai based on 45 mph-the fastest you can travel on Molokai. There are 120 units, and 7 are timeshare exchanges.Yes, the units are older, but the one we were in was in good condition-a few lightbulbs out but all in all fine. Beach chairs, beach towels, cooler, and beach bag/grocery bags provided. Plenty of pots and pans, bowls etc. Really appreciate the washer & dryer in the unit. You can check out rice cookers, crock pots etc, too. I believe there are stairs to both the downstairs and upstairs units for all 120. Our unit did not have an ocean view, unfortunately, but it's a short walk or drive to the next resort that is on the beach. The pool and spa is VERY nice.Well maintained and large. Library, tennis courts, lanai, and BBQ areas round out the amenities. No scheduled activities except a yoga class in the AM a couple times a week.THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING, but the fans and windows help.Hawaiian-style furniture in this unit could be more comfortable, couch hard to lie on. Bed isn't bad, a bit too firm for my husband. Not sure of furnishings in others. Looked at Kepuhi Beach Resort and Paniolo Hale and Ke Nani Kai's grounds and pool are far superior. Just wish there was an ocean view. Maunaloa General Store is much closer and even found cheaper items there. Would not hesitate to recommend and will most likely return.

Looking for solitude? Ke Nani Kai has it.

Ke Nani Kai Resort in the west end of Moloka'i. Not a 5 luxury resort, but a very solid, recommended experience. 2 bdrm 2 bath plus Murphy bed, fully equipped kitchen, laundry, private lanai (turkeys included) and supply of beach paraphernalia (chairs, totes, towels, cooler). Great management, pool, jacuzzi, easy walk to the deserted beach (spectacular sunsets nightly). Peace and quiet, solitude and trade winds. I would definitely come back. The only thing that would make it better would be AC, but they provide plenty of fans, just keep the windows and door open and let the trade winds blow through. Recommendations: you definitely need a rental car, and get your groceries in town before you check-in. Everything shuts down at 5:30p. If you're looking for nightlife, entertainment and excitement, this is NOT the island for you. If you want to unplug, recharge and just 'be', then pack minimally and come find yourself on Moloka'i at Ke Nani Kai. Overall experience = perfect. We will be back.

    Beautiful quiet and peaceful

2 bedroom, 2 bath, #137, awesome accommodation in paradise!! All the comforts of home, in the middle of nature. The beaches were virtually empty, listening to the waves crashing on the beach, what an awesome sight. James was quick to respond to any questions or requests. An easy drive to the airport and to the towns of Maunaloa and Kaunakakai.

    Just WOW!

I wasn't sure what to expect from a condo timeshare on Molokai. I know these things can run the gambit from amazing to abysmal. The most recent reviews were AT LEAST a year old. This place is amazing! We met resident owners at the pool who touted the resort as the best on the island. I took all that with a grain of salt, but when the LOCALS echo the same opinions, and then you see the other locations, Ke Nani Kai is a true winner! Its a 45 minute drive (at 45 mph or less) to almost everything, but the pool, hot tub, and beaches are nothing short of amazing. It is not air conditioned, but not many places there are, so come prepared with plenty of ideas for keeping cool, but when we checked in they had a dozen fans blowing and making every effort to have the room comfortable when we arrived. We loved being greeted on the lanai every morning by the resident turkeys, peacocks, cardinals and mina birds. The best part of the trip? Before we arrived, the management called to make sure we had a car rental arranged and to alert us to the fact we needed to buy groceries near the airport because everything would be closed if we drove out to the resort first and we would be stuck without food or snacks for more than a day. WHO DOES THAT??
