  Perfect

  We have been many times before the renovation the Katarino hotel. But now I can say it's a perfect hotel. The rooms (Junior apartment) are big spacious. There are all you need in bathroom- shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, bath salt, body lotion..., even a mask (covid). The food is very good. Big variety and quality. It's the biggest plus as the time before renovation. The spa center is wonderful. Relax zone is my favorite. "Oriental Tale" from the spa rituals- recommend it.

  Katarino and COVID

  The hotel itself is a good one. However, despite the renovations, the years are visible. Furniture too old. The pool is really good. Staying in the outside pool during the winter, when you can see your freezing breathe, is quite an experience. The food is tasty. The service is super. Miglena, one of the waitresses, was extremely attentive. However, COVID measures are not implemented. The guests are not requested to wear masks in the common spaces. The bowling was overcrowded. Almost no one wears gloves when taking food in the restaurant.

  No Less than Superb: All clean, not a single spot or a hair anywhere

  We visited Katarino spa for 4 nights in early January after being in other spa hotels recently (Velina in Velingrad, Midalidare Estate and Sana in Hissarya- read there). The difference is striking indeed: here you find Alpes style exterior and interior, all details refined to perfection, smooth service. You can pay all the time with credit cards. The dinner and the breakfast (half board) are superb. You can have the best filtered coffee in the morning (no stupid breakfast quick-disgusting coffee machines like in 90% of the other hotels). Traditional breakfast, pancakes (incl. American ones) in a separate live cooking bar with maple syrup besides the other 10 types of honey and 15 types of local jams incl. from cherries. 20 types of bread- with nuts, brown, black, white, with kvass, with rye, with olive, with oregano. The salads- Ropotamo salad from my childhood (fish), besides all arugula, cherry tomatoes, Snezhanka, shopska, potato salads. 10 types of olives, even filled with mini sour cucumbers. I am speechless about the dinner meals - again a live cooking separate grill bar and also various stews, every dinner fish (incl. salmon, salmon trout), veal or pork or chicken meat - all fresh. The locally produced cheese- goal, cow, sheep, mixed, mozzarella, cottage cheese, yellow cheese. Fruits: pineapple, pomegranate, passion fruits, kiwi very night. Ushav, kompot, yogurt with blackberries, interesting village-like desserts. All other sweet pastry, chocolates, even red icecream! As for Covid restrictions- we all wore masks in the common areas like lobby or restaurant. We used gloves for taking food from the trays. Maybe not everybody used gloves but to underline this fact in a separate review before mine in Trip Advisor is weird. The pool- Vitamin bar is open, you can eat and drink down at the pool area. The towel and the spa is totally included in the price. Over 6 different types of saunas. There are some loud children in the pool but OK, no big deal. All clean, clean, clean, not a single spot or a hair anywhere! Room are big and spacious, clean towels every day, changed sheets after day 2. Parking for all guests. Lobby is like a dream living room, I could spend all the day there- with clean and comfy sofas, next to the fire with all daily newspapers served every day. With a view to the snow-covered mounts. A publishing house provides the hotel with free books- action, drama, romance and you can read Nora Roberts, Jackline Susan or Grisham for free in the lobby. There are also older books and in other languages in an extended part of the lobby. TV with a movie channel, you pay 15 leva for subscription. Bowling, billiard are 8 leva per person per game and we played just once. The gaming area was empty, just the two of us in the afternoon. I don't know about the evenings. Clean bowling shoes, nice contemporary music inside the gaming room. One of the greatest pluses- local people from Razlog and the surrounding villages work in Katarino which contributes to the modest and respectful attitude and service towards the guests of the hotel. In Bansko the personnel is seasonal and the attitude is not the same. The driving to the slopes guys and the Ski shops guys are helpful, friendly.

  Katarino's team made our vacation possible and turned it into a lovely, absolutely perfect experience! Traveling with a pack of very energetic toddlers is a challenge. It was our first vacation altogether, and our expectations were, well, unknown. My wife and I desperately needed some time off, but the odds weren't in our favor. Gosh, how wrong we've been! We rented a family house (Vihren Villa), which is large, nice, clean and suitable for all of us. You have a parking spot right at the front of it, which helps if you have plenty of luggage (like us). We are not gourmet expert-wannabes, but we pay attention to clean food and kid-friendly meals. Both buffet and restaurant were everything we could ask for. Delicious options, quick service, and an easy way for one of us to feed toddler A while the other one is at the pool with toddler B. The ladies at kid's corner were charming and neat to our boys. Overall, all of Katarino's people were very professional. In such crazy and scary times during pandemics, they did everything possible, so we can release the stress and enjoy the time there. We are not winter sports enthusiasts and can't share such experience, but if you are looking for a place to enjoy summer in the mountain with your family, GO FOR IT!

  Friendly staff, good food the management team deserves thumbs up.

  This is my family's fourth visit in the past 18 months and we are always speaking highly of the friendly, polite and accommodating staff what is evident that the owners hands on involvement and dedication to customer service and experience is indeed paying off. This simple recipe is sadly not followed by many equivalent and higher rated Spa hotels in Bulgaria. In the last trip it is too evident the move towards indulging the other senses since food is too now benefiting from self farming or association with bio producers, fresh great quality produce and variety will mean this hidden gem is doing many things right. Will be back for sure.
