Tranquillity & FriendlyExcellence services with Japanese hospitality. Amazing food both dinner and breakfast. Impresive onsen especially the private onsen on roof top. Nice location with beautiful scenery of lake. Staff so well attending. Will come back again for sure.

decent hotel, very good dinnerOverall: 3.5 stars I enjoyed my overnight stay in early July. My first impression was mixed, because the hotel sits at the far end of a large parking lot and the building's concrete exterior is ugly. Happily, however, the interior is pleasant. The included dinner was the highlight of my stay. It was a multi-course kaiseki affair with plenty of tasty fish (both cooked and sashimi), vegetables, and soup. The presentation was beautiful. Breakfast was good, too. The rooms all overlook scenic Lake Tazawa. Mine was comfortable, plenty large, and contained several easily-accessed electrical outlets. Sadly the window lacked a screen, so opening it to take in the fresh air meant taking a risk of admitting flying insects as well. The hotel claimed to provide in-room wifi, but despite many attempts I was only successful connecting to it in the first-floor lounge. The public baths on the first floor were nice but nothing special. The fourth floor rotenburo (outdoor pool) was very nice, as it looked out over the lake.

Beautiful sunsetKatakuri No Hana is a good place to stay in Lake Tazawa. Although its is not near the Statue of Tatsuko, its beautiful sunset can compensate everything. You can take the bus to Statue of Tatsuko for around 1000yen to travel around. When arrived the Station of Tazawako, they will have free shuttle bus to take you to and fro hotel. (But need reservation by phone or by email)

We had a relaxing stay. This was the ryokan recommended by the travel agency I use to explore Kakunodate about fifteen minutes' drive to the west. The exterior looked a bit aged but inside was quite bright and modern. We were greeted by the staff upon arrival, taken aside to the lobby, given a mushroom tea to relax while we were checked in. The room overlooking Lake Tazawa was spectacular. The standard couse menu is composed of local dishes that vary depending on what ingredient is in season. Our travel agent was right suggesting there was no need to order additional side dishes as the standard course was voluminous enough. The onsen on the ground floor was clean and spacious. There is an onsen bath on the rooftop which you can use as long as it is vacant. Unfortunately it was occupied every time we looked, as there were quite a few guests enjoying the weekend. Overall it was a very pleasant stay. Price is at the higher end.
