Very good hotelThe hotel has a good location: it is close to the city center and also close to a park. Rooms are confortable and big. This is the good size for a couple. Breakfast, which is a continental, is good. The hotel also includes a restaurant.

Good quality hotel in convenient locationI stayed at the Kastanienhof for two nights, before and after a day of conferences (also held at the hotel). Unless you need to be in Munich city centre, the hotel's location is very convenient. It is 10-15 minutes by car from Munich airport, depending on traffic. Unfortunately, our taxi driver had no idea at all where the hotel was located within the picturesque town of Erding, and gave us a bit of a grand tour of the town after our arrival at the airport. The hotel is also just a stone's throw from Erding train station but saying that, the hotel was not at all affected by any noise from the station. If you have the time to walk into the pretty old town centre of Erding, I would encourage you to do so. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, depending on your own pace. My room was comfortable, with contemporary decor. There was a cute little balcony. Despite it being a standard size room, there was a very useful addition of a door between the bedroom and the entrance/wardrobe/bathroom area, greatly reducing sounds from the hotel corridor when closed. The Kastanienhof seems to be primarily a business hotel which may be why I found a better than average, very useful desk/workspace in my room which also had free WiFi. Guests can adjust the hot and cold air conditioning entirely to their liking which was a distinct advantage during my stay at sub-zero temperatures. I found my room's lighting pleasant enough to mention it here: It included direct as well as ambient lighting, plus an LED desk lamp. I have never enjoyed this in a hotel room before and thought it excellent. I also found the idea of two different type pillows, one of which should suit everyone, very thoughtful, as well as the complimentary umbrella provided in the room. Such nice and thoughtful touches made the selection of complimentary toiletries in the bathroom all the more puzzling: There were small bottles of what seemed an up-market body lotion and hair conditioner, but a generic, uninviting shampoo and shower gel dispenser in the shower. Housekeeping could do much better: The two-seater couch was covered in seeds and crumbs, as if someone had messily enjoyed a breadroll. There were also tea or coffee stains on one of the saucers of the tea/coffee making facility. Whilst said facilities included a nice selection of herbal teas, sugar sachets were only of the unhealthy, white variety. And the one and only black tea bag was not replaced by room service when used. There was also a complimentary half litre bottle of a tasty local mineral water which seems to have been sponsored by the company as it, too, was not replenished by housekeeping on the second day of my stay. The hotel's ground floor features a small gastro bar, plus a restaurant proper which is also where breakfast is served in the mornings. On the evening of our arrival and also the second night of our stay, restaurant and bar only served dishes from their Chinese menu, because "there is only one chef on tonight". For our first night's dinner this was fine and the food was very good indeed. On our second night in Erding we wanted to experience typical Bavarian cuisine though, and so ate in town. Breakfast consisted of an extensive German-style buffet plus a small menu of warm dishes cooked to order. Both were very tasty, as were the hot and cold beverages. To our surprise, there was also an Asian breakfast buffet on offer and it turned out that the lady of the house hails from China, and that the hotel has a contract with Air China, regularly hosting their pilots and crew. That then explained why signs and instructions in the guest room were, amongst other languages, in Chinese! My colleagues and I found bar, restaurant and breakfast staff very personable, friendly and helpful. I thought they were a true credit to the hotel and we could not have been better looked after by both the lady and the gentleman (My apologies for not remembering their names!). Day-time reception staff, too, were professional, friendly, charming and helpful. When a colleague and I needed assistance with regards to the public PC and printer near the reception desk after 10 p.m. on one evening, the night-time receptionist (I absolutely refuse to describe her here as a 'lady' because I don't want to mislead my readers!) could not have been more disinterested. This person was clearly annoyed to be called away from her lengthy chat with one of her colleagues, and on a second occasion from torturing her smartphone with her enormous, tackily polished talons. And I simply find it disgusting to speak to someone chewing gum open-mouthed. This person absolutely did not fit in with the style and service at the Kastanienhof, and the owners would do well to replace her because she distinctly lowers the standard of their establishment. Because of that staff member, the disappointing housekeeping experience and the neither-here-nor-there toiletries, I don't want to give the Kastanienhof a 4 star rating because here, 4 stars mean 'very good'. I would like to rate this hotel 'good', but am not given the opportunity here. For that reason, I can only give 3 stars. Sorry...

Very good overall appreciationWe had a very good welcome with lots of advices. The hotel is situated close to the station and the city center. Rooms are spacious and very clean. There are a lot of facilities. Not a lot of choice for breakfast but it was enough for me.
