Service was great but...Hotel was not too expensive, but I only booked it because other hotel chains I preferred were entirely booked up due to the Japanese week of holidays called Golden Week. Service was always with a smile and hotel staff answered my questions. I don't believe they have any English ability, but they would try their best to help you. The reason for the poor review is because I got a hotel room on the 4th floor and it was WAY TOO HOT even in May. When I checked into the hotel, the front staff told me that if it was too stuffy in the room, I should open the window because "wind doesn't come out so well". I didn't know what they meant at first but I quickly found out when I got to the room. There was no air conditioning. This kind of shocked me. There was a single vent in the room, and could be turned on high, low or off but it didn't seem to do anything. The hotel seemed to have a broken air conditioner or refused to turn on any central air conditioning. It was very hot in the room, not even comfortable enough to sleep. I got kind of lucky that night because it ended up raining and thus, the temperature dropped. Lower floors seemed to be fine, but even walking off the elevator onto the fourth floor that afternoon, I quickly broke out into a sweat (and I'm a small girl). Also, written in the guidebook written in English, Korean and Japanese, it said the hotel had a curfew of 9pm. When I asked the hotel staff about this, they said it had been changed until 2AM, so that was much better but why didn't they ever edit their guidebook? Breakfast was too expensive for the pricepoint of the hotel at 840yen a morning. Better to walk out to the main street for food, I think. Also, the morning after our first nights stay (we booked 3 nights), the staff came to our room at 9:40AM to clean the room even though I had a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Then, to make matters worse, they came back again at 10:10AM. Both times, they just attempted to open the door. I was changing the second time so that situation could have been disastrous. I wonder why they bother to have Do Not Disturb signs. Good points were that the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Bed and space was OK and pretty standard for a business hotel. TV was small, but who goes sightseeing to watch TV? Also, parking was only 500yen a night and they will issue you a parking pass to come and go from the parking lot if you want to take out your car from the day. So, you don't have to pay anything extra. Parking lot is right next to the back entrance of the hotel which was also really nice. I opted to just walk around Kanazawa as the hotel is within a 20 minute walk to most sightseeing spots. No WiFi, but that is not common in Japan. Did have wired internet which was pretty good, I thought.

Kanazawa garden viewKanazawa is not one of the most famous cities in Japan, but still is an ancient city and has that's worth seeing. Most of all: the Castle and the Kenrokuen Garden, really stunning ! Hotel Kenrokusou - as the name could tell you - is placed close to these attractions, just next to the Castle Park entrance ! Distance from JR station: 15 / 20 mins walking; 5 mins with autobus (free if you got a JR Pass). The main streets for night life and restaurants are not far from the hotel as well. We booked a triple room for 2 days in august, the room was simple and large enough, with Air conditioning, bathtub and free LAN Internet. Staff was friendly but mostly not english-speaking. I'd recommend this hotel for a short staying in Kanazawa (you can have also a day trip to the amazing Eihei-Ji zen Temple), a delicious city !

Good location and friendly staff but a bit basicWe stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in April 2015, and it was fine for a short stay but wouldn't want to stay there much longer. The rooms were fairly spacious but were quite plain and our air-conditioning didn't work. The hotel also has no wifi (though there was an internet cable if you have a laptop). Staff were really friendly and helpful but the atmosphere of the hotel overall wasn't great.
