  Amazing experience for me my so and nephew. Want to go back for my 60th. Wanted to go to a place from the novel "snow country". This was exactly what I was hoping for. Wa shoku was great. Rooms were japanese style, large and felt the history of the place. Grounds were wonderfull to go for walks in. Felt remote.

  Perfectly maintained, authentic Ryokan - suitable for a getaway and deep relaxation

  We have been visiting Kaikake onsen for years and each time we visit, the stay simply feels too short. After visiting other Ryokans, the prestige and hospitality at Kaikake really stands out. I appreciate the care, dedication and personalised service from the Kaikake team. We usually visit in winter and I love the cosy atmosphere - makes for a perfect retreat. It is an easy, short Shinkansen ride from Tokyo. Hope to be back again soon! Thank you so much

  Awesome and relaxing stay!

  My family enjoyed staying at Kaikake Onsen a lot. The food is great and the employees are so warm and helpful. The rooms have a nice modern touch while keeping the Onsen/Ryokan experience and building. There are also a lot of helpful small touches like a pitcher of water in the room and good coffee in the morning (not common at ryokan). The inside and outside onsen baths are also really pleasant and never too crowded.

  A hidden gem (hot springs hotel)

  This onsen hot springs in Yuzawa, Niigata, is a must-go place if you want to enjoy an authentic onsen hot springs. This place was ranked as one of the top three onsen hot springs in Japan in Nihon Keizai Shinbun Newspaper article (so it got more difficult to book a room here compared to a few years ago). Easy access from Tokyo on the billet train plus taxi (4000yen max. flat rate offered by Yuzawa Uonuma taxi) or bus (runs almost every hour) from Yuzawa station. The hotel building is wooden and very traditional, yet clean and beautiful. The onsen hot springs apparently has at least 400 years of history. Very friendly staff and healthy meals are wonderful. Highly recommended for everyone who enjoy peaceful time. Grate place for single travelers, families, and couples. Elders and handicapped travelers might want to request a room on the first floor.

  Wonderful Onsen Retreat

  Kaikake Onsen, a 750 years old hidden away mountain hot spring retreat located in Niigata prefecture Japan, only one and half hours by bullet train from Tokyo. Kaikake Onsen is owned and run by an old tradition family, a truly uniquely Japanese traditional way of spending time to unwind after busy my Tokyo trip and all the staffs at this Onsen are really friendly and genuinely hospitable, making you feel like at home. Amazingly just after a second day, I had best sleep in months at this Onsen hotel, now I fully understood Japanese's way of longevity life come with mountain air, spring water, fresh food, sake and hot spring.....
