  Great view but very tired room

  We were on the 9th floor and had a great view of the volcano across the water. We sat in our room watching the volcano in action. Very friendly staff . Car parking is available for a small fee. Restaurants are across the road so you have a choice. But the room was very tired. The furniture was stained as was the carpet. The style was very dated.

  The view of the room was excellent

  The volcano was just right in front of the window of the room. There was also a church next to the hotel where couples wedding ceremony took place. Very lovely and joyful. The reception staffs were trained to be very polite.

  Nice place to stay, great bar.

  The room was big, quiet, clean and nice, about all you can ask for. The bar up top is a great place to kick back and relax. Decent breakfast with lots of options. It wasn't to close to the downtown but they always had a cab waiting out front so if you prefer to get around that way (I sure do) it made everything seem accessible. There are plenty of sights to see and places to eat within walking distance as well!

  Try the sushi

  To get to Kagoshima Sun Royal Hotel from the airport, I took an airport shuttle bus to Kagoshima-Chuo Station (buses run every 15 minutes and costs ¥1250). Then from the station I took the free shuttle bus to the hotel. Note the free shuttle bus runs about every hour but there is about a 2 hours break around lunchtime. The free shuttle bus actually looks like the public buses with cash machine beside the driver! There is no need to drop any cash and just make sure the front of the bus says Kagoshima Sun Royal Hotel. My bus was about 10 minutes late, so dont worry if it doesnt turns up on time. I was reliant on the free shuttle bus. On a couple of occasions the bus was full and I had to stand. One occasion there wasnt a scheduled bus back, from Kagoshima-Chuo Station, to the hotel for more than an hour and so I took a taxi back. Cost about ¥1350 The bus arrives at the hotel . The reception and lobby is large and spacious. The decor looks a bit old-fashioned. This includes some of staff wearing what I can describe as Hawaiian short-sleeve shirts. The check-in was quick and friendly and an English-speaking staff showed me up to my double room Again, the decor of the room doesnt agree with me but the room was bigger than I thought. I asked the staff was there a safe in the room and she replied no. In general the living room and bathroom was clean but the carpet felt horrible to walk on. It felt sticky. I presume it was dirty. I booked the double room because it promised a view of Sakurajima and it delivered! If, like me, you are here for a couple of nights then I recommend One-day Pass or CUTE. You can buy at Kagoshima-Chuo Station. Both you can use City View Bus, City Bus and Tram. The CUTE also includes Sakurajima Ferry and Sakurajima Island View Bus and you can also get a Two-day Pass I would recommend going to Sakurajima and taking the Island View Bus to explore the island. The Island View Bus stops at a number of places and the driver allows you to get off and wonder around up to 30 mins (depending on the place of interest). Get back on the bus and it leaves for the next stop! The next place of interest I recommend is Sengan-en. I got here by using the City View Bus (not City Bus). It is Stop 12 and the bus runs every 30 mins Back to the hotel, I tried the cheapest sushi set menu (about 30USD) in the Japanese Cuisine Shitisai restaurant located on the 2nd floor. I was surprised to see that my 8 pieces of sushi was prepared in front of me by the chef! Not possible I can get this service for 30USD where I live. The sushi, to me at least, was fresh and delicious. The set menu also included some pickles, white rice (I think), miso soup, egg and dessert to finish off. After the meal, I wish I tried the more expensive sushi set menu To get back to the airport there is an airport shuttle bus that stops about 1-2 minutes walk outside the hotel and turn right. The stop is called Yojiro 1-chome. However, the bus runs every hour and stops running by late afternoon Would I go back and stay at the hotel? I give other hotels a try, considering the value, decor, location and infrequent shuttle bus service. Although the hotel offers great views of Sakurajima, you can get this view in a number of places in Kagoshima, either at hotels in downtown Kagoshima, Kagoshima Port, Sengan-en etc. I would go back and eat at the Japanese Cuisine Shitisai restaurant though

  Exceptional!

  This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in our 2 weeks Kyushu trip. Superb service & friendly staff who made our trip so memorable. Staff were so helpful & friendly & assisted us in everything that we need. Room is spacious with stunning sakurajima view. Love the onsen with fantastic view. Hotel also provides shuttle service to Kagoshima-chuo station & Tenmonkan so it is very convenient for guests. Special thanks to Jimmy San & his team for their impeccable service. Would definitely return to stay again & highly recommended to anyone who is visiting Kagoshima.
