    Fantastic ryokan! Highly recommend

    This ryokan was fabulous from start to finish! Wed had a huge day sightseeing in Osaka & were late to get the train to Kyoto, and worried we wouldnt make it to the ryokan to check in. Panicking that the owners were waiting we gave them a call & she was so lovely, happy to wait for us. Cold matcha tea upon arrival & a lovely authentic but comfortable room. Owners are so sweet, always accommodating & recommended a great tea ceremony as well. Very clean & has all the amenities while still feeling traditional. It is perfectly located along the Main Street, very close to public transport, iconic Nishiki Market & all the sites. We ended up spending out last 2 nights in a hotel & both agreed we wished we spent the entire time here instead!

    A genuine Japanese experience in central Kyoto

    We stayed 2 nights in Kyoto at this ryokan. It was a real japanese experience. Nice and very kind staff. The rooms are great, large, and decorated in autentic japanese style. We were welcomed with tea. The service is in top. You sleep well on the futon. We had breakfast twice, very japanese but also very delicious. However, there are certain things that are rather difficult to eat in the morning for an European. They have a small public bath/onsen which we tried twice. We loved the stay and the kindness of the staff. We can definetely recommend a stay at Kagihei!

    Lovely people, lovely place

    Beautifully kept little ryokan in a side street near the main shopping area and metro line. Lovely traditional Japanese decor touches at entrance and public areas. Nice size comfortable rooms and excellent Japanese breakfast. Best features were the two ladies who did most of the front of house work - old fashioned Japanese courtesy together with lovely friendly attitude and acute sensitivity to guest needs. Good functional English (but polite enought to let me try torturing their language first if I wanted) and nothing too much trouble. Only grumble was the o-furo, which was lukewarm instead of the usual boiling alive sensation, which always feels so great afterwards. Highly recommended.

    Wonderful ryokan, very friendly owners and great location

    We stayed for the second time at this lovely ryokan. Rooms and futons are very comfortable. Traditional Japanese breakfast is outstanding and served in private tatami room. Public hot bath is wonderful and a great relief after a long day of visiting temples! Owners and staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Location is great - a few steps away from Nishiki market and walking distance to Gion and the river. Easy access to public transport. Great value. Highly recommend!

    Stay here when in Kyoto

    This ryokan is situated in a great location. It's an easy walk from Karasuma or Kawaramachi station. There's the Nishiki market at your doorstop, the surrounding arcades and department, Gion down the road and it's easy to get to all the near by attractions like Fushimi Inari, the many temples. The hosts are amazingly friendly and lovely. The rates are affordable and breakfast meals are delicious if you enjoy the traditional Japanese breakfasts. There's also an onsite indoor onsen to relax before bed. I'll definitely stay here again when I'm back.
