    Dated but comfy

The hotel has a pleasant and accommodating staff, but the hotel itself, amenities and facilities look like it was built in the 80s and never got renovated aside from flat screen tvs and wifi. Dinner was very good, breakfast isn't anything to write home about though.

As a westerner with tattoos and not a fish fan, I can not recommed this

First and foremost I'd like to emphasize that the staff in the hotel was very friendly and tried their best. This hotels target audience is clearly old japanese folks. And that's ok and they seem to get it right. For me, a westerner it was not a good experience. And that is what my review is based on. English is not common here. That goes for pretty much whole Japan, but in this hotel it was an absolute nightmare. They even have a whiteboard for you to draw your request on. What might sound funny at first is a big imposition if you try to get things scheduled. Especially when the shuttle you ordered does not arrive on time and you miss your train. Bad Room smell/old rooms We had to change the room after the first night because it smelled really bad. It had the smell of old fish - a day later, we figured out why, the room was next to an old... kitchen I believe? We were given a new room after the checkout of other guests, but had to wait in the lobby, because we could not stand that smell. The next room was better, it stil smelled moldy but not fishy, still it seems that this hotel has not renovated since the early 90s. Shuttle The shuttle bus does not get you to the Ayashi Station. At best it gets you to the towncenter. The busses just drive every other hour, so you'll need to get a taxi from the station and back. Food Breakfast: The breakfast is buffett-stlye and has many variations of eggs, soups, fish and other things. It is barely continental though. Two kinds of fruit, something that might be categorized as apples and plain grapefruit. Dinner: I got sick after the first dinner because it was only fish and seafood in various sauces. Really nicely decorated and again the staff was very nice but sadly I spent the first night on the toilet. After that we explicitly asked for no more fish. They respected that, but most ingridients were still marinated in soy-fish sauce. Bad, unencrpyted internet. Yes it is very easy to connect to a open WiFi, but when you don't have access to a VPN there might be a possibility of espionage by a third party. And that is careless. Tattoos are not allowed here. I have some tattoos on my arms and chest and upon entering their bathing facilities I was stopped and they told my I wasn't allowed to enter because other guests would mind. That is ok, disciminating in the year 2019 but if that is thei policy ok. BUT: their english website does not state that anywhere and that is a no-go. Especially when you book this hotel in particular to enjoy onzens. All in all I would not stay here again because of the above points. If you like fish a lot, speak japanese well and don't have tattoos this might be the place for you.
