    Great Place

I had a great experience at Kasuikyo. We had a great view of the lake. The room is very simply designed but has everything you need. We dressed in Yukata for dinner and then went to the public paths. The baths were phenomenal. I highly recommend trying the baths.

Gate 1 Travel Booked This Hotel For Our Group- They shouldn't!

This hotel has seen better days. The carpets are shabby and have holes in them. The room lighting is terrible. The futons you sleep on the floor are too thin and you feel the floor underneath you. We were booked into this hotel by Gate 1 Travel for our group of 24 people. Four of the couples , including us, had the bathrooms flood when the tub was emptied. The plumbing can't handle the tubs draining and the water all bubbles up out of the drain and all of us ended up with 2 inches of water in the bathroom. So in our case, I went down to reception to tell them about it and the girl at the desk came up to the room with a bunch of towels and a can of what was the Japanese version of Drano and cleaned up the bathroom and poured the Drano down the drain that is in the floor. Others in our group were moved to a different room after the flood and some stayed in their room because only smoking rooms were available. The breakfast buffet wasn't much. The tables are lined up in a line across a huge room and everyone sits facing the same direction like a big lecture hall. We had to stay at this awful hotel because gate 1 Travel stuck us here. Never book this place on your own. The hotel advertises that it has a hot spring bath available but all i saw was a dark area consisting of a large, hot swimming pool with a hot tub outside. Not exactly the experience you imagine.

    Not a traditional Ryoken

Stayed at this location with a Gate 1 tour. Rooms were very large with an outside balcony. Very quiet. Fridge, safe, wifi. Shampoo, confitioner and body wash are provided. Bathroom has a shower. No body lotion. Bathrobes provided. The futon was thin and I did not sleep well. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was very good. There is also an excellent gift shop. The onsen (thermal springs) were good. Men and women have separate baths. You bath naked. Breakfast was disappointing as it had tons of Japanese choices and limited fruit or Western choices. You eat at long tables. I would compare the experience to staying at a big hotel vs a bed & breakfast. I think if you really want to experience a Ryokan, pick a smaller, more charming property.

    Experirnce a Japanese Ryokan

The Ryokan very much contains its required elements, room with tatami mats and kotasu table, serving Kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast in its culture unique style and the onsen bath. Decoration expresses Japanese zen & simplification. Room was very large with a large balcony we had a great view of Lake Shibayama, and Kakusan in the distance. Futon beds were set up in the evening. Onsen bath was easy to get to and open extended hours for guest's convenience. Yukata was provided. Our group dinner was served in a private room, it was delicious and aboundant. Breakfast was serviced in a large room, and seems like everyone in the hotel came to eat at the same time, it was a little chaotic, but it was good if you like Japanese style food. The facility shows its age, and requies some face-lift. The staff was very friendly, they stood in the entrance and waved to you until our bus disappeared. What a unique culture to show their appreciation. We enjoyed the stay very much!

    A nice experience

Came here as a tour group. The room is large with a nice view to the lake. We had the Japanese style room and slept in the tatami. To our surprise, it was quite comfortable and warm. Agree with some comments that the rooms have seen their good days and in need for a refreshment. The doorlock to our room was broken and can only be locked by the deadlock. The public bath is big and not many people using it. The disappointment is that the outdoor bath is very small. On the other hand, the staffs are very welcoming and helpful.
