Expect the expected for paying cheap...Okay, had to book this hotel last min...had no choice. The price is bargain but this place is a little run down. Knowing what I know after coming to this place, I would invest a little bit more money and find a better place. The hotel is run down, dirty, and half of the things don't work (sink and internet problems). The bed feels awkward and smelly. I hear people next door arguing and traffic noise is horrible. overall this place is ghetto! I do not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially if you are visiting from another country, unless you are looking for some place raggedy. One thing I must give props is to the VERY nice hotel staff

Great value, good locationHuge clean room with excellent bedding and lots of hot water--less than $30 booked on line. It's located in a residential area, fairly quiet, but with great metro access to everywhere. Not much English spoken by staff.

Worth itDefinitely worth what we payed. around 200 rmb when we booked online, and while the rooms are slightly darker than pictured, the room is definitely bigger than expected. The bed was nice and clean, the TV worked. No smells, carpets looked fairly clean. Shower had good pressure, everything worked and was clean. Staff were nice, minimal noise, close to a subway station. Safe surroundings.

Cheapest Star Hotel in Jing'an DistrictBeleive or not, this is probably the cheapest hotel in Jing'an District, RMB198 which is around USD30, you get a big and clean room, right in the residential area make your sleep easier. Banks, Noodle shop, Small Market, Convenient Store, Metro Line 7, all within walking distance. Even the facilities is run down, all customer still need to swipe their room card for get into the second floor, it turns out very secure as non-customer would have less chance to get into the building. In the morning, I prefer to walk down to the local lane near the market, the food stands serve great Shengjian mantou (also known as the shengjianbao outside the Jiangnan region) is a type of small, pan-fried baozi which is a specialty of Shanghai. It is usually filled with pork and gelatin that melts into soup/liquid when cooked. Shengjian mantou has been one of the most common breakfast items in Shanghai since the early 1900s. As a ubiquitous breakfast item, it has a significant place in Shanghainese culture. When Shengjian served with soybean sauce, it comes out as my great breakfast. Local bus route 765 could also bring us to other spots like Zhongshan Park, only cost 2 kuai. As I am not a picky but price sensitive person, Joyage would always be my first choice when travelling there.

Will definitely returnThis is a great find. Everything works in this room, 411, the air conditioner is great, the king bed is much softer and cushier than the usual Chinese bed - I had a great sleep. The room is small, but I'm just one person. For 27 bucks it's a deal, especially being in a great area. You can walk to the 7 subway, and I even walked to the Jing'an line 2, not that far. Lots of restaurants and shopping in small shops. I also like that I can use and plug in my iPad right beside the bed and not across the room. They have the basics, kettle, toothbrushes etc. bottled drinking water is one yuan. They had bath and hand towels but no washcloth. The floors are tiled which I like because they are cleaner than carpets. The room is clean, though missing paint in a couple spots which is no biggie for me. The staff is super friendly. I will definitely return!
