AnniversaryWent to JAI for our 55th anniversary. First the pluses - the grounds and facilities are beautiful. We have been there a number of times over the years and this is the first time weve eaten outside. It was refreshing as our retirement community offer few opportunities for eating in the open air. We felt very safe in this covid situation in which we find ourselves, especially since the weather cooperated. So much for the pluses. We started our meal with our usual drink, a Manhatten. It was filled to the brim with ice and very little bourbon. I would suggest your mixologist travel up the road to Millers Ale House for a lesson. Twice the liquor for a third less price. Bread offered with the meal was excellent fresh and crispy. We followed that with the chowder which was hot and very flavorful certainly the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, our entrees were delivered before finishing our chowder. We rushed through the chowder so we could enjoy the rest of our meal. My wife had the salmon which was very good. The vegetables mixed in the lo mein were tasty but the sauce was very salty, to the point that they were not eaten. I tried them and had to agree with her. I like Asain cuisine and realize the sauce can be salty but this was excessive. We usually do not order dessert as an attempt to watch our weight but thought the choice of ice cream was less than inspired vanilla and chocolate. I would have thought something a little more original would be offered. Of course, we may have been pleasantly surprised. Just an observation. Finally, we felt we were rushed in our dinner. We had a 6:30 reservation and were walking to our car at 7:15. :45 minutes for a meal that we felt was to commemorate a milestone in our life was a disappointment. JAI had no way of knowing our occasion for dining but that should be irrelevant.

Joseph Ambler InnVery comfortable rooms that were bright and cheerful. Stayed overnight after a wedding. Plenty of linens. Awesome bathtubs. Common areas for families to gather. Beautiful grounds. Great breakfast the next morning.

JAI Pandemic StyleJust got home from a 2 night stay at JAI. This is probably our 7th-ish stay and it was 5 star but it didn't start out that way. I had purchased a Groupon for a queen deluxe type room and called the resort right away to upgrade to a king suite with my Preferred Customer points. One (of many) great perks at JAI is the relatively inexpensive fee to upgrade your room type. I was told on the phone, "No problem, you will be in the Hancock Suite". We were coming in Sun eve on Labor day weekend and they had been slammed Fri & Sat, clearly there had been weddings (multiple tents) and another event (which closed down the restaurant) was scheduled for Monday. When we arrived at the front desk, we were given the queen type room that our Groupon was for, there were no notes on our account about the upgrade, and there were no king suites available. So there we were, not happy, discussing just going home, and would have lost all money because of Groupon terms. Luckily for us PAUL came to the desk, took over our problem and took care of us. I could go into all the details of how Paul tried to accommodate us ( I have arthritis and have a tough time with stairs so options were further limited) and the few snags we hit on the way but it doesn't really matter as we ended up in the suite I was originally promised, and we were given several goodies to make up for the trouble. The rest of the trip was PERFECT - room was clean, housekeeping left us clean towels & toiletries. If you are interested in a detailed review of the room, please see my first review of this inn, the room was as perfect this time as then. This review is all about recognizing the outstanding customer service we received especially from PAUL and also a quick shout out to Tom, our server in the restaurant, he's new and was wonderful at waiting on people in full melt down mode and being kind and professional. Much success to Tom :) Paul stayed with us until we were satisfied and was truly the picture of beyond outstanding customer service. Cannot say enough good things !! My parting advice is read the reviews, understand the policy changes caused by COVID-19 ie the to go b'fast (we just skipped it, wasn't an issue), call the inn with questions, and always give the staff a chance to make things right, at JAI, they absolutely want to !! Another great experience !!

Disappointing visit this time !!reserved time for 1pm lunch to celebrate 58th anniversary. Many guests were dining outdoors in lovely porch with garden all around . We were placed indoors in a private room with no one else to be there. Service was slow and we did not question why this condition of privacy was set. We did not ask to be moved ( which we should have)and finished the lunch. Was not a pleasant visit in any way. Food was acceptable anyhow .

Mid week special = Amazing Stay!My husband and I were enticed by the Inn's Mid Week Special and booked a 2-night stay in a regular king room. Our room was in the Thomas Wilson House, 2nd floor. The room was spacious and immaculate. Bed was very comfortable. Only negative I would add was that there was not a vanity in the bathroom (I did like the separate thermostat for bathroom heat) and the fact that the light filtering shades in the main bedroom did not extend to the bottom of the windowsill but stopped about 6" short. I would add said windows are rather large and afford a great deal of natural sunlight. Although we knew other guests shared the house it was very quiet. The package offered a dinner credit at the Pub which we enjoyed very much. The Inn grounds are spacious and offer quite a few separate buildings for guest quarters. A wedding here would be spectacular, indoors or out! The Inn is close to The Mercer and Fairmont Castle which we enjoyed. Looking forward to returning soon ( package or not!)
