The best part is that villas are across from the Jetwing Lagoon HotelIt is hard to objectively assess the villas because villas are beautiful but grounds are totally unfinished and do not match the look of villas... however, access to the Jetwing Lagoon hotel across the street makes you forget it all. And only because of that I rated it as excellent. Villa 1 in which we stayed was large, with a king size bed and great bedding. Open air shower was spectacular. The bathroom sliding door was hard to open and close. The internet worked well. The small pool overlooking the ocean looked nice but we did not use it. We enjoyed the spectacular sunset on the beach where villas are located. Do not miss it! Jetwing Lagoon is one of the first hotels designed by Geoffrey Bawa, the most famous Sri Lankan architect. It is an absolutely stunning place where the nature embraces buildings that are superbly designed to blur the borders of indoor and outdoor spaces. A hundred meter long pool is a centerepiece of this resort. You have to experience it to believe how serene, simple, peaceful and beautiful this place is. As you can see I am a great admirer of Bawa's work. Unfortunately, the place is not accessible. As a guest of the villas you can eat in Jetwing Lagoon. Food at the hotel restaurants is good but overpriced. One does not have a choice of eating outside the hotel as no restaurants are located in the vicinity. Waiters are friendly but slow and confused on occassions. However, the soothing view of the lagoon makes it all worthwhile. I loved the place. Stayed for two nights, and although it was really beautiful two nights were enough.

A Less Expensive Cousin Across the Street from Jetwing Lagoon HotelWe thought our agent had booked us into the Jetwing Lagoon Hotel with the massive 100 m pool - but when we checked in, were informed our accommodations were in the Villas across the street. Considering the price difference was substantial and the room in the villa very nice, we didn't mind. We walked across the road and had dinner in the Lagoon's restaurant and considered swimming in the pool but the dark clouds overhead made us change our minds. The dark clouds ended up dumping a ton of rain during dinner and made the walk back across the street a very muddy one. This is the biggest issue with the villas - you have to walk across the street and then through a dirt track before you enter the villa building. It looks like a vacant lot and definitely needs proper landscaping as well as a more finished path (or at least a driveway - even the cars have to drive over the field to pull up to the front door) to make it warrant a higher rating. Also the staff aren't really focused on the villas; the attendant who showed us to the room told us there was no refrigerator in the room so we gave away some drinks we had wanted to chill - only to discover that there was a fridge in the room! We had to leave at 4 am for an early morning flight and because there is no phone in the room (which is odd, considering all other amenities are provided), the attendant again from the Lagoon said he would walk over and assist us in leaving - but he never showed up. The pools for the villas were cloudy and you couldn't see the bottom. The beach itself is rather grungy so the best option is to walk across the street and use the massive and attractive pool at the Jetwing Lagoon if you want to swim. The room was very nice and large - but again, there is no staff around so when we came back from dinner in the dark, there were no lights on outside or along the corridors and we had to use our cell phone to find the switches. We seemed to be the only guests staying in the villas that night, so it was a little disconcerting to cross-country our way back to the villas and then stumble around until we finally got the lights turned on! So for the difference in price, staying at the villas is fine - but just know you are definitely in a kind of no-man's land and carry a flash light with you!

Ultimate getaway for scenic privacyThe property is located right across the road from Jetwing Lagoon hotel. It is a small villa with only three rooms. We stayed in the Master Bedroom, which meant that we got the entire top floor to ourselves. There is a nice plunge pool that opens up to the beach, and the beach is only a few meters away. The room was large and spacious. My favourite was the washroom, which was large and airy. It came with a hot tub as well. The downside of the property is that you can't use the kitchen unless you have reserved the entire villa. As there are no restaurants in the area, you have no option but to order in from Jetwing Lagoon, or go there for your meals. In addition, the rooms do not have a view at all. The view in the photos is from the pool area of the Master bedroom. All in all, it was a great place to seek some R&R. It would be a great place to visit with a bunch of friends, if you can reserve the entire villa.

Unfinished suroundingsThe Villas are nice and well maintained. One room was unfortunately smelling tobacco but after complaing we got another room in on of the Villas. Unfortunately there are a big but, the surrounding outdoors are in many ways unfinished. The Villas are build in a big field with rather high grass. This is very uncomfortable. On our way to the hotel Jetwing Lagoon in the evening (where you have all your meals) we run in to a big snake in the grass. One of us almost put his foot on it. When we told the reception about it they reacted with surprise but no excuse or further action. Nice Villas but the location are a bit wrong with the rather heavy trafficed road between the Villas and the hotel where you have your meals. The unfinished and unsecure surroundings (snakes) is a big no and we can unfortunately recommend it even if the Villas are really nice.
