Lovely getaway retreat, friendly staff, highly recommended !!!!!I had such a wonderful weekend here and would highly recommend it to anyone ... Easy to get to from Bangkok via car or more fun to take the 10 baht train and go through the Mae Klong market :) Nice swimming pool area and right by the river ... Peaceful little haven

Just don'tThis has to date been my worst hotel experience in Thailand. To start off, we followed the google map instructions to the resort and ended up in the middle of a salt field. Luckily many other visitors to this resort had also arrived in the same salt field so the friendly guy that worked there (who only speaks Thai by the way) gave us directions to where the resort was. When we got there it is NOWHERE near Ampawa where it is advertised as being located - the Ampawa floating market is in fact 15-20 minutes away. We were happy to let this go - however when we returned to the resort in the evening the AC in one of the rooms was not working properly, and the room did not cool down, then to make matters worse there was a thunderstorm in the area and we had a brownout - resulting in the AC stopping to work completely. Again this is something we could let go - as it is a thunderstorm and with many available rooms - this is a problem that is easily fixed. However at this resort on a Saturday night there is NOONE that can help you. We tried calling the front desk - no reply. We walked down to the reception, only to find that there was nobody there. We then went to the security guard who said nobody is there - and gave us a phone number to call. When we called the number this was to a maintenance man who said he would be there shortly. One hour later - nobody had showed up to resolve the problem, so we called the number again, but the phone was now conveniently switched off, so we walked back to the security guard again, who was at his station sleeping leaning over the desk. It was now 1.30 in the morning - a good hour and a half since the problem had occurred and we asked for a new room - a reasonable request inThailand in April, as very few people can sleep a minute in the hottest month of the year without an AC or at the very least a fan, but no such luck - the security guard does not have the key to the front office - we asked him to call the manager on duty - he could not as the internal phone he has on his desk can not make outside calls - and his personal cell phone did not have any credit so he could not reach anyone!! So I asked him for the number for the manager on duty - and he had some numbers written down in a book on his desk - he must have given us 5-6 different numbers all who had a recorded message that the number was no longer in use - or was not activated on the telephone network. We then called AGODA - explained the situation to them, but they were also unable to offer any assistance as they needed to verify the situation with the resort. We put the security guard on the phone who confirmed the AC was not working and that he had no keys - he also confirmed that there was no other staff on the resort, and that it would be impossible to check out at this time as the front desk staff if not working. I asked what they suggested we do - sleep in our car with the AC on maybe - but the agent said she had to talk to her supervisor then after being on hold for 5 minutes the line dropped. As we walked away from the security guards desk - he comes running after us with yet another number to call - it is now 1.40 in the morning - and we get through to someone - possibly the owner - who is clearly upset that we have been given his number - we explain the situation to him - and he asks to speak to the security guard and then hangs up. The guard tells us that they will give a new room "shortly" - it has already been 2 hours since the problem occurred and after waiting another 25-30 minutes we finally get a new room. The resort is nice enough - the location is falsely advertised by AGODA - these are both issues we can live with - but a resort with people staying in the rooms can not provide this level of "service" during the night shift! What if there was a fire - the security can not call anyone! If there is a medical emergency - the same - this is a complete joke and the only acceptable outcome for us here is a full refund! We generally book our room to sleep then move on to a new location the next day - when you have to spend 3 hours of prime "sleeping time" trying to resolve a simple problem like this the point of renting the room is gone! If you carry your own fan, phone and translator when traveling please go ahead visit at your own risk, if not I STRONGLY recommend staying somewhere else!

Nicely designed, less tendedThis is a nicely designed resort but we had some points that we found uncomely. - There is garbage lying all over the ground, we could not understand why not every staff member was obligated to pick up every piece that they see when they pass it.. - The standard room is only of 10 square meters size and not really clean. - The bathroom had mold between the tiles and some staines on the tiles that could be removed simply by us, why does the staff nothing similiar? - The pool had only one umbrella and five deck chairs of which one was broken. There were water insects in the pool, so there could not have been enough chlorine in the water. - The breakfast buffet could have been ok, if the rechauds would have been lit and if the empty bowls would have been refilled. Reclamations about it were apologized but nothing done to solve it, although that would have been easyly done - only some of the staff members were so polite and greeted us back.

don't book it!We could not believe all the good reviews about this place! There were only 4 sunloungers for this big pool yet caters for many guests, poolbar does not exist in fact there is no bar! Sops consisted of one tiny room where you could buy the very basic essentials like water. The hall where you eat was like a sweat box which only served thai food. The room is less than basic the bathroom was tiny and disgusting. Attractions near by are none out in the middle of nowhere, when we asked at reception about getting out and seeing things she replied I will google it !!! Please if you are thinking of staying here don't do it, we checked in and checked straight back out!

Lovely place to stayWe stayed 2 nights here while driving from Koh Samui up to Chiang MaI. It is a beautiful hotel based on several buildings, with some fabulous wooden bungalows. There was a teachers symposium on when we arrived, and were given a free upgrade to 2 of the wooden buildings. We live in a teak house in Chiang Mai and these buildings at Jaroenrat were fabulous! Firm bed, coffee/tea facilities, good shower/wet room. We used the pool, large and clean, with 5 sun loungers, but we were the only ones using the pool. The whole hotel site was clean and litter free during our stay. Not a place for boozing and nightlife, as its a way out of town. We visited the train market (still no trains cos of upgrading to the line) and the floating market. Our stay was midweek so the floating market was quiet. The day we left they were expecting a large group of tourists from Bangkok. It sounds like its a place that's quiet during the week and busy during weekends. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If you want a nice place to stay while visiting Aphawa, this will do nicely.
