  Can't do better for staying in the area

  I made a last minute booking to James's Place at Dowlais and could not have been happier. In a row of non-descript houses James's place has a cycle on the wall making it clear where you're heading to. There's parking around the rear which takes a lot of stress off that aspect of a stay. The apartment itself you could tell had been well thought out. It's more a small apartment than just a place with a bed to be honest. A small kitchenette is nicely tucked away. the bathroom whilst cosy was clean and damp free with no unsightly stains or marks anywhere like some of the chain hotels in the area. It really was like a home away from home, well not quite as I don't have nowhere near the decorating taste or sensibilities of whomever designed "Idris". My stay was on the top floor so if you are booking and don't fancy stairs make sure you mention this. Other nice things. Nice and quiet from the outside world of noise. Curtains kept the light out It's lovely and warm. Nice touches with the chocolates and places to go. James was also great to deal with as my booking was entirely last minute.. 30 minutes before i realised I had nowhere to stay. This is my first even 5 star review and looking forward to staying again.. that's if i can get a room as it's always busy :)

  Fantastic!!

  Quirky fun place. Very cleverly thought out love the design. Great price bed is really comfortable and love the little touches that James leaves. Five star . Would like to stay longer next time.

  Good

  A nice little place to stay with asda and bike park wales around the corner. Nowhere local to walk to for a beer or food so ended up in the Indian across the road which wasnt bad! All in all a nice little spot and no complaints.

  Quirky

  I stayed in Studio 6 which was Sheep themed with horns on thw wall and the wall radiator disguised with a lamb picture. Room was small but the kitchenette was well equiped and the shower was hot and powerful. Very cosy. Car Parking is in the large free car park just behind which was well lit. across the road is a useful shop. good value

  Absolutely brilliant

  Just had 4 nights at Dowlias in studio number 1 (butty). James was very accommodating during the booking and when I told him I was working for essential services during the current crisis, he reduced the room rate! On arrival I found the studio spotlessly clean, heating on and with lovely fresh fluffy towels. There was a fresh pint of milk in the fridge and a packet of welsh cakes on the table to greet me. The living area has a quality large screen smart tv with Netflix installed, an identical tv is also installed in the bedroom. Bed was very comfy with plenty of pillows. Kitchen area has sink, cooker hob, combination microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. There is an iron and ironing board in the room and it has its own private court yard area accessed from french doors in the bedroom. Decoration throughout is truly funky with an industrial feel, but really works well and is a refreshing change. Plenty of complimentary toiletries along with everything you need to operate and clean the kitchen. Pots pans, cutlery, glasses, cloths, cleaning materials are all in plentiful supply. This is an ideal place for tourists or business people like myself. Its an ideal base if youre away from home. There is ample free parking to the rear of the property. I was so impressed I have booked at another one of his places for the next month! Would happily recommend to anyone.
