    Felt like home

The staff were amazing, so welcoming and friendly and genuine which was really pleasant after braving the streets of Cairo where you are constantly hassled by vendors trying to sell you merchandise and tours. They arranged a day trip to the Giza pyramids and Sakara which was great and amazing value. There is always tea and great conversation waiting for you any time of day or night. The rooms are fine, clean and comfortable. Try the Egyptian breakfast option - it's delicious!

    Keep away

We chose this hostel because of good rating on booking page what was big mistake. I am not sure, why it has so many good rates on this page but after our stay there I have checked another pages and rating is much much worse. It has been the worst hostel I have ever visited. Hostel is on the first floor in the poor condition building without lift but this is not a bid deal. By considering how small is hostel maintainace is horrible, dirt is everywhere. Sofa in a lobby has not been cleaned some years and original cream-white colour is now mostly grey-black. On the page booking. com I wrote in what time we could come to the hostel but our room wasn't prepared. It is understandable because we came before official check in time and also it isn't problem. Man asked us to wait 5 minutes and then he said to come in. I saw he didn't change sheets so I asked him to do it. Blanket were disgusting, dirty and whole room stank because of smoking inside the room what is really ridiculous because windows are stuck without possibility to open them and painted with nontransparent white colour. Maybe it was better, who knows what was behind the windows. Personal has had nice TV on the reception (our TV in the room didn't worked) and mostly has been watching TV in despite of many problems in this hostel. I booked room with bathroom and toilet what means that toilet with shower technically were inside the room and whole facility deserves well cleaning. Only separation were thin wooden "walls" without roof. Breakfast was poor, just some sandwitches with one egg, two triangles of cheese and small jam. Personal tried to be nice and we had no problem with anybody until our leaving. When I asked to pay for the room they gave us bad rate (I wanted to pay in EGP) so I asked what is actual rate in the bank. After that personal called the manager which started to shout on me in the phone demanding to do payment in dollars or euro. I started to be angry after all and I have been shouting at the staff which didn't deserve it and I am sorry for that. We have been really exhausted after almost 2 weeks on the way around Egypt and the last day we should solved this stupidity. Also I saw very nice breakfast (with vegetables, arabic bread...) and I have asked one employee for whom is this breakfast on the table in the lobby, and he said that it is for the staff and then I asked him why they are not serving the same for customers or even asking us if we want it even it is cheaper. He said that what we got is more healthful than their breakfast and we could have problems with stomach because of things from local market. Then I have shown him our vegetable which we bought day before and he couldn't say anything else. Finally manager came and tried to explain me that he has to pay commision for booking page but on the page is also written that any customer can pay by local curancy with actual rate of this day. On the other hand, customer has nothing to do with payment of commision at all. I gave them more money to finish the conflict but the manager gave me the rate difference back (what was just maybe 10 - 15 EGP) as a sign of "great deed". Problems of this hostel are not because of lazy staff but because of lack of interest by responsible person or management. In this part of Cairo are many other hostels and I know at least one much better with the same/similar prices in this area which I have visited one month before.

    Jamaica Hostel

Hostel is located at the center of the city with good accessibility of metro and the museum. However I didnt like the spirit of the place and solving of the bathroom in our room. Bathroom was literarly in the room without adequate separation - cubicle with an opened top. Although we didnt somke in our room, there was a permanent cigarette smell because of previous visitors smoking in the room. There was no functioning window (no fresh air, dark) and not really clean bed linen, not to mention the permanent smell. The staff was nice, but at the end of our stay, we had some problems with the manager, who attempted to give us a bad change rate for egyptian pounds, later said, that he will recieve only dollars and he was screaming on the phone.... We got really upset and left with deep disapointment.

Estaba perfecta

    Holiday

Guys keep away from this place as it has no lifts Dirty place with dirty bed linen no air conditioning dirty walls I wouldnt stay there even if it was free Guy behind the desk was quite helpful by showing us three different rooms to choose from but there were worse then each other And the price per night is the same as Australian and Minerva hostels which are palaces compared to this place.
