    Great staff makes the difference

The nice guy at check- in let me keep my bicycle in the entry way, which I really appreciated since I had a five- night stay. My room, Nr. 806, was a double bed room with a decent- sized work desk, a micro- fridge, a large flat screen TV and not a lot of space left over. Fortunately, it also has a real closet space and a couple of drawers so I didnt need much of the floor space for my kit after all. The bathroom was good, a Biz Hotel bathroom upgraded with more space and a temperature- control armature for the tub / shower. The mirror is large enough to reflect a politicians ego, and it is heated so that it does not steam up from taking a shower, a nice touch. The bedding included regular and memory foam pillows and was very comfortable. The area is quiet and the window kips open, so getting a good rest with fresh air is easy. Next to the bed was a charger octopus with myriad connectors to charge your whatever. The room looks east and though there are buildings around, I can see a good bit of the hills beyond. Looking towards the north, part of the Mutsu Bay and the Hiranai peninsula is visible. Higher rooms, _20 through _25, would have a great view of the whole Mutsu Bay and the iconic bridge; remaining odd- numbered rooms (and _18) would have a view towards the west (train station) and see the bridge and the west part of the Bay. Those rooms are a bit larger as well. Breakfast was the best. Really the best. Theres a huge variety, all done in- house. The warm dishes are kept warm. The ingredients are fresh and the highest quality. I have bicycled over 2,000km so far on this trip, from the southernmost point to Aomori so far, and this is the best breakfast buffet I have seen in over thirty hotels on this trip. Best- tasting by far. The breakfast staff are great very pleasant and positive, even though they are working ten days straight during Golden Week so the customers can enjoy their vacations. The service in the hotel is excellent. The staff helped me phone a ferry that was shut down due to high winds. My Japanese is not so hot, and I could not understand what the clerk on the other end of the line was saying, but the hotel rang them and could make it clear to me. Big help. The location is good enough, 500m from the station, near the main, covered shopping street. There are a couple of hotels a bit more than 1km from the station, but most are closer. The good news is that the restaurants near the station are very touristy. Though there are lots of restaurants near to the JAL City, they are far enough from the station that the tourists get drawn in to other places before reaching this turf. There are a couple of Konbinis within 2 blocks. The tourist information triangle building is very close, and so are the stairs to walk up onto the iconic bridge. The coin laundry had machines that added detergent automatically and washed and dried all in one go, so you did not have to go back down and re- load into another machine. There were helpful stickers in English for the major buttons, nice touch! The short of it: I love this hotel. Highly recommended.

    Nice and close

This is a good option in Aomori. While the surrounding area is a bit soul-less, the hotel is actually just two blocks away from the lively main street, and on the other side the waterfront and museums. The station is about 12 mins walk, though it took me a while to find the right street. Check-in and out was quick and efficient. The room was a bit larger than many in Japan. Specially good points were the large and varied breakfast included in the room rate, and the mobile phone charging device in the room.

    Comfortable, no problems

As far as Aomori goes, this seems a decent option--good value, good location. But there is really nothing remarkable about it. Cleanliness and service on par with Japanese standards, which is generally high. The rooms are on the small side, which is also normal, and the amenities are basic but complete. All in all, no highlights or outstanding features, but also no complaints or problems, a good stay.

Excellent room and location, despite a bit dated

We stayed at Hotel JAL City when we had a stopover at Aomori, and this hotel very much fit our needs. The hotel is in downtown Aomori with plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. JR Aomori station is 5-minute walk away. The hotel has on-site parking with one of the friendliest parking attendant. Check-in and check-out were all very smooth, and the front-desk was very helpful with our online shopping deliveries. The room was definitely not large but didn't feel cramped. The interior and decor of the room felt like hotel rooms in the 90s - it even had a alarm/lighting console between the beds! Despite the dated interior, the room was very cozy and clean. The only complaint we had was that the elevator had pretty strong cigarette smell, most likely due to the fact that it is not a completely smoke-free hotel. I'd choose JAL City next time I'm in Aomori, and hopefully by the time it has gone smoke-free.

    Nice and Comfortable.

This hotel is around a 10 minute walk from the station and a couple minutes walk from. Shinomachi Shopping Street. The hotel is just off the main shopping centre and most stores close by 7:00pm except for ones that serve dinner and it is until 10:00pm or midnight. The check in process was a bit slow but got there in the end. We then went up to our room and it was a good size room that you could move around in with luggage. There was a closet where you could hang your clothes but no wardrobe. The bathroom was a good size also so that you had no difficulty moving around. There was plenty hot water for a shower. There was a mini fridge if you wanted to buy something. If you wanted to do some washing there was a small laundry on Level 3 . This consisted of 2 machines that could wash and dry. It cost 500 yen for a 5kg wash and 400 yen for a 1kg wash and 100 yen just to dry. The nearest coffee shop was a Dotour and you could order coffee or hot chocolate and some sandwiches or cakes. It was a couple minutes from the hotel .
