    A stay with a difference

The Retreat consists of a number of lodges/cabins which you reach via a gravel track. The grounds are picturesque and peaceful and the Retreat is surrounded by lovely scenery. Our room did not have a security box nor could we access Wi-Fi, other than in or around the breakfast room which is shared with other guests. No problem for us but you need to be aware of this. Our bed was sumptuously comfortable. As with other reviews, we found it slightly odd that nobody was there to greet us on arrival and for our first night we were the only guests. The swimming pool is poorly maintained and to be frank was a disgrace, so poor that we could not swim in it. We did however enjoy our stay, making use of the BBQ facilities in the evening and spotting kangaroos in the wild as they skipped past the Retreat in the evenings.

    Tired and rundown

I had goo thoughts about this place, going by the pics, but it was nothing like it. The pool was full of algae, and had been that way for months according to the guest book. The Water worked occassionly.. All the Tuscan water features, weren't working - and also full of algae. The gardens were also rundown. There was no service to speak of, and what was there, they really didnt care that much. On the positive, the room was nice and cool ( it was 43C when we were there) the breakfast was great, coffee good. But the location of the place is hard to find, up a dirt road and hidden away. I would not recommend it, but i truly wanted to like it, as it had a lot of charm, it just was so rundown.

Worst place I have ever stayed in!!!!

Booked for 3 nights hoping to stay at retreat??? Paid $400 per night. Was so bad we only stayed one night and then left. The pool was thick soupy green with algae. The whole advertisement on Booking.com revolves around the crystal clear blue swimming pool. The lady Chris who runs the place (but conveniently absent) stated the pool was safe to swim in. After all... she said... when she was young she grew up on a farm and it was nothing to swim in a dam with a dead sheep in the water on the other side. Frankly Id rather take my chances in her dam. The whole place was totally run down. The breakfast was very average and there was no one at the property to help with anything. To add insult to injury she refused to give us a refund! SO DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

    review a year late !

apologies for the late review, but just havent gotten around to it. I;ll keep it short and sweet- not what we were expecting after staying at the Waybourne Vineyard near melbourne. Firstly on check in- at 15.00 , no one was at recetion. On ringing my husband was told an envelope was in the mail box at the entrance. Apparently the key was left in the door of our room - which it wasnt. This meant we coulndnt secure the romm if we went out! Room itself was very nice as was the bathroom. We took a walk around the retreat and it was completely deserted, and rather disappointing. The grounds were messy and the pool area was green with algae . We drove into town and bought ourselves somefood- depite the website saying we could order a cold platter. That was not forthcoming. We only stayed the night which was enough. The electric had cut out overnight and we were unable to use the shower in the morning .Quite frankly we were that fed up we decided to pack up and leave without seeing if anyone was around or to see if breakfast was available. Quite frankly one of the worst places we have stayed - I'd avoid

    Stunning

Stayed in the 'Courtbarn' during a overnight trip and it was wonderful. The barn and other cottages are all old, but we were amazed at the care and attention to detail provided to ensure we would be happy at the retreat. The grounds are spectacular and I believe there are only 7 cottages on site which means there is a lot of privacy if that's what you're looking for. We enjoyed some wine and cheese in the evening near the pool area and listened to the birds. It was incredibly peaceful. I've noticed other posts make comment on the condition of the pool in the past - it was pristine during our stay. The rose garden was very pretty and we enjoyed a tasting session (very private) at Moorooroo Winery which is adjacent to the retreat. Our cottage had everything you could want for. The fridge was stocked with breakfast items, furniture/decor was lovely and our bed was super comfy with good quality sheeting/pillows. The barn/cottage is old so lights were switched on via ceiling cord and the stairs up to the bedroom are old but add character to the place. We were very impressed by the bathroom. It was modern with a massive two person shower and a beautiful bathtub. Towels/bathrobes/slippers were all there waiting for us after a day of tasting wines. The Courtbarn was very romantic (candles provided) and we would certainly recommend this to any couple(s) looking for a bit of a get away. There is no manangement on site but a contact number is provided if necessary (seriously you won't need reception it's all provided for you before you arrive). We did meet Jerry (manager) when we were leaving the following morning - thanks Jerry for checking in on us . we lived our stay and will definately be back.
