Peaceful, relaxing and also quite fun

My husband and I just got back from a week-long stay here and had an absolutely wonderful time. We stayed in the larger rooms up on the hill. Everything was clean and well cared for, the room was quite spacious, and we had a lovely view from the deck. We were just up from the pool and right behind us was a great little path for jogging (not that we ended up doing any jogging). Also, the food was delicious. I highly recommend the sauerkraut dinner. There was only one cook, and it took a bit of time, but was well worth the wait. This is certainly a great place for those who are looking for quiet and are more interested in exploring the area than going out for a big night. The owner was extremely helpful about local sites to go and explore. We rented his small boat one day and putted around the islands, which was great fun. In short, it was a perfect trip for us (and our dog, who came along for the ride). If you're looking for someplace to stay away from the crowds and hullabaloo of tourism, we'd highly recommend Island View Resort.

    Low budget choice

Really dated and old. Terrible beds.. in the jungle, so it is dark and a lot of noise from the frogs and insects. Clean and cheap, but no extras.. not even toilet paper.. The air condition was noisy, but worked. Pluss for fridge! Did not have breakfast, but would not eat there - it did not look inviting, and no one eat there. Cheap to stay, and they cleaned every other day. Towels were provided.

    Avoid This Place

On checking in - we were greeted to a half naked German guy who could not find the key to our room, when we got to our room, it was old and out dated - the air con is very old and hot. Eventually some guy came with the key to our room. After I was coming back from dinner that night, as I walked towards the so called resort and spa I noticed the place was in total darkness, so I assumed we had a blackout only to be surprised that the German owner sitting in total darkness, I asked him why are the lights not on? , he answered - no need for lights - all the guests have left for the evening - I found the light switch to the hall way but as soon as I turned it on, he turned it off again, how rude. I had to use the light on my phone to get in to my room. The next day I was going out to lunch and he said we have great food here, I said we are going out to eat, then he replied, if you are not eating here, no need to tell me about where you are going , more rudeness. I was talking to a guest who did eat at Island View and he said he was waiting 30 - 45 minutes per dish. Final straw he lost my bill and placed a beer on some other guests bill. If you are driving a car - parking is far away from Island View and is public parking. This guy has bad manners to paying guests. I will never return. His Thai wife was nice and friendly, that is about all the good I can give you about this place. Avoid it.

    Paradise for snorkeling and solitude

I reserved for two nights and extended one more night. I could have stayed a week more. Hotel is comfortable and going out to nearby beaches is a great pleasure. Here are the details why I was so happy in this hotel. 1. The hotel has rooms on the jetty (on a hill as well). A room with a balcony facing the sea and islands is comfortable. Theres A/C. But you can keep sliding doors open with anti mosquito screen doors closed. Then you get a nice breeze at night. 2. The open air restaurant is a place you can relax day and night, watching boats go by ,swallows flying, fish jumping out of water! Food is fresh and delicious. I had fried fish with sauce, steamed fish as well as a few kinds of curry. All of them highly recommended. It is better to tell them what you would like to eat beforehand, including breakfast. Then the cook will prepare exactly the way you want and also saving time to wait. 3. I took a tour of 6 beaches by motorboat. One island called Koh Wai pleased me most. It is a Robinson Crusoe type(photo attached).Extremely serene, white sands and corals attract colorful fish. There is a simple cafe-restaurant also. So I went there again next day . Its a snorkeling paradise. It turned out to be Sunday. So several boats arrived with tourists. They usually depart after one hour. Weekdays are much more quiet. 4. Last but not least, all the staff in the hotel are very pleasant and helpful. The owner, Deter and Sue , are ready to accommodate you as much comfort as you require. Deter gave me abundant information on available activities, such as going by kayak or jogging in the forest. We had plenty of time to chat and I enjoyed listening to his insight on Thai society as well as countries he had visited as a globetrotter. One piece of advice. This hotel does not accept credit cards. Better to bring cash , especially Thai bahts. Theres no money exchange nearby. In short, I recommend this hotel for people who would like to get a peace of mind in a serene environment. I am already planning to come back next year for a longer stay.

    Pleasantly quiet with cooling breeze

Island View is built on the end of a long pier. The only things slightly blocking the lovely view of the island are a group of large yachts tied up prior to the main season sailings. The rooms face east taking in the islands. Each room has a small deck over the water. We chose the best room at the end which had a window facing north as well as the deck. With all the windows open and insect netting we had a fantastic sea breeze coming into our room all night....we never used the A/C! The access to Island View pier is along a narrow track leading from a small collection of houses, shop and restaurants at the southern end of the east coast road....a dead end! There are a couple of nice fish restaurants and small guest houses in the village which were a nice change from eating in. The food at dinner was fine if lacking in spice though Su was an enthusiastic hostess. Dieter was always on hand to offer suggestions for places to visit and motorbike or boat hire to get around easily. Going far on foot was a little hazardous due to a large gang of temple dogs which seemed a bit too aggressive even to a dog lover like me. The eastern side of Koh Chang is extremely quiet with no beaches to attract tourist numbers so it is a nice antidote to the busy west coast. At the end of our stay we were taking the boat from Bang Bao to Koh Mak but didnt realise that there was no road across the southern end of the island. Su organised a local fisherman to take us in his boat which took about 90 minutes. A very pleasant alternative to a long taxi journey right around the island. We really enjoyed our stay at Island View and would recommend it without hesitation.
