Isaac Hilliard House B&BLast week I traveled to Pemberton, NJ to visit a college, and I stayed at the Isaac Hilliard House Bed and Breakfast. I arrived later than anticipated, and Phyllis, the owner, was most gracious and greeted me before telling me about my room. I stayed in the Cranberry Room, and it was cozy and decorated with care. I slept soundly. The following morning I enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the dining room, where I was served piping hot tea (in a gorgeous teapot), yogurt parfait, and a delicious sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast casserole served over an English muffin. Phyllis was an attentive host, and made me feel right at home. Her little, friendly dog, Dash, who rested on a cushion in the beautifully decorated porch, was a favorite with the guests. Although I had quite a distance to travel, it was a pleasure chatting with Phyllis about our families and our hobbies. As this B&B is currently for sale, I hope whoever purchases this property will care for it, and its future guests, as Phyllis has. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors. I highly recommend travelers taking the time to find this hidden gem. You will not be disappointed.

Proprietor is sweet as candy! The woman who runs this house was wonderful! A very sweet person who runs a charming and quaint B&B. She made wonderful parfaits for breakfast which, while not in the least satisfying, were delicious. Unfortunately, there was not much more for breakfast, so if you are looking for something hearty, look elsewhere. The bed was old and took up most of the space of the room. The springs made it uncomfortable and quite squeaky. The fixtures were also old, and the entire house had a feeling of being from a different time period, reminding me of my grandmother's house from the 1960s. And then there was that smell... I don't know what it was, maybe dusty, oily, moldy, moth-ball-ridden...something. It was very unpleasant. It got on everything. My clothes all smelled of it when I got home. Not a fresh smell at all. For this reason, and for the lack of a satisfying breakfast, I would never stay here again. However, others may find the place quite pleasant and relaxing.

Victorian decor and ambianceWe had excellent service. Our hostess, Phyl, was very friendly - We got to chat over the wonderful breakfast, which Phyllis prepared for us. The entire house was furnished with Victorian decor. The house itself had been built in 1749, but renovated during the Victorian era, so the furnishings were ideal for the house itself. The room was large, and thoughtfully decorated, with a lot of detailed touches which made you feel as if you were in the late 1800's. The location was a small town in NJ, which also dated back to the 1700's - Isaac Hilliard House is located on one of the main streets in Pemberton, which is in south central NJ - about 27 minutes from Manahawkin NJ, which is just inland from LBI (Long Beach Island) at the Jersey shore. There is wifi and AC; bathrooms were furnished with soap, towels, hairdryer, shampoo, etc. There is also an outdoor pool for use by guests. Ample, protected parking in the rear of the house. We enjoyed best chatting with our host the following morning. The thing we liked least was the fact that the location is only reachable by using secondary roads, which were not always well-marked. We would recommend Isaac Hilliard House to anyone who would like a quiet stay in a somewhat rural setting.

A B&B that feels like homeI stayed for 3 nights with my partner and daughter to attend a funeral. Though we were saddened by the event, Phyl made our stay feel like we were visiting with family. She a is warm, compassionate woman as well as an excellent cook. The home is well maintained and clean. There are many historical and interesting articles throughout the home. The living room and dining room are open for visitors enjoyment. We highly recommend a stay at this lovely Victorian B&B. Kathy, William and Jeanne PS Make sure you request her French Toast. It is exquisite.
