Ski in steps from your door. Walk around building to GondolaJust returned from a week at Ironwood Townhomes 3/2012. This was my 3rd stay here in the past 5 years. You can disregard the 2008-2010 reviews that mention construction of the One Steamboat Place building. That is complete and the Ironwood surrounding are as perfect as can be. The unit we stayed in had EVERYTHING you could imagine. TVs in all bedrooms, numerous towels in each of the bathrooms, and the kitchen was stocked with many, many extras (blender, mixer, toaster, spices, coffee maker with filters, sugar, etc.) and large washer and dryer in the unit. There are so many condos that claim Ski-in, Ski-out that it's hard to know the truth. This is a TRUE ski in, even at the end of March when 95% of all condos claiming Ski-In are not even close to Ski-in. You walk aroiund the building and the brick walkway to the gondola and Gondola Square Plaza are literally 20 yards from the townhomes. You walk along this walkway, in front of the new One Steamboat Place building, about 30-40 yards, and you're at the gondola. A very easy walk even in ski boots. You could say Ski-out because the slope is literally 20 feet from the townhomes but it is slightly uphill so you'd have to pole up to the gondola. These units (I think they are all about the same) are multi-level, so not so great for physically impared or those that can't walk up stairs.) But if you can ski, you can handle it. Noone is above or below you except the people you're with, so you won't have to worry about neighbor noises. (We did like to sleep with our windows open for fresh cold air but the slopes are just outside so the snow plow's "beeping" can wake you at night. (That's a price you pay for being close to the slopes at any condo). Close the window and you'll snooze away! 2 hot tubs in the parking area, one HOT and the other more like a heated pool temperature. Great for after-ski relaxation. It was never crowded when we were there. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here and ski. We had 4 adults and 3 children. Couldn't ask for more!

4 Ironwood - very comfortable stayWe stayed in unit # 4 (2 families with 4 adults, 5 kids ages 5,5,6,7,9). This unit was the perfect size for all of us with 4BR, 4 full baths. Very clean (owners request no shoes to be worn in unit which it appears others respect). Walk in and there is a foyer w/spacious closet. Hall leads to garage which was great for storing our skis/boots and then the MBR with huge jacuzzi/shower/bathroom. Go upstairs to fully equipped kitchen open to family room with FPL, dining area and office area, complete with working printer. There is also a queen sleeper sofa in a bedroom with full bath - 3 boys stayed here. Go all the way downstairs and there is large laundry room, BR with 2 twins (girls stayed here) and another queen BR (other adult couple stayed). As far as ski in/ski out goes, it is ski-in but I wouldn't say ski-out. There was not as much snow as we would've liked when we went (3/25-3/31/2012) but you could ski up to the path to lead you back to the townhome and then it was a 2 minute walk back. Coming out was about a 5-10 min walk to the gondola. Oversized hot tub was great, almost too hot but the other tub was a lukewarm pool. Walk right out of unit to get to hot tubs - very convenient. Pros: close proximity to gondola, extremely clean, cozy and comfortable, great free shuttle service to town/grocery store - no car needed; great rate for what you get. Cons: unit really only sleeps 8 comfortably (we could do 9 b/c the kids are young); they did not provide enough laundry detergent or replenish the shampoo when they came to refresh; housekeeping left a bunch of popcorn kernels on the kitchen floor when they emptied the trash and didn't bother to sweep it up; 3 levels of stairs to walk up and down - by days 3 and 4 of skiing, our legs were a bit sore and the altitude made us a little winded on the stairs (we are all in great shape). All-in-all, we would stay in one of these townhomes again next year.

great location, condition of townhouse not so greatwe've been skiing Steamboat for 14 years. always enjoy the trip. we've stayed in 6 different properties and always had a good experience. this was the first visit, and last to Ironwood #9. when making the reservation I specifically asked not to have that unit because it looked dated and furnishings old and worn. the location of the unit was great with easy access to the mountain. the hot tub was enjoyed by several people in our group. the unit itself is dated and several of the small appliances didn't work. the dial on the oven has no markings so you don't know which temperature it is set at. the router for the internet had to be re-booted several times a day because it would fail. there were broken glasses in the cabinet and 2 mounds of cigarette butts on the patio. there is a sound system but several of the speakers are blown so we didn't use it. the garbage disposal was backed up and after calling maintenance 2x's with no resolution, we stopped using it.

Ironwood Townhomes a nice option for 4/4Ironwood happens to be one of my favorite properties. As you are heading up to the ski area, Ironwood is about a 10 minute walk to the ski area. Its nice and woodsy in the interior, modern appliances in most of the homes, and it has a couple hot tubs to relax in after a days skiing. I like it because they have garages. Ive found happy buyers for these complexes, and for the investment purchaser who wants to get some cash flow from their purchase while renting when the owner is away these are great offerings. They are quite a bit larger as well and they are what we call ski in but not necessarily ski out. Best for groups, bigger families, a buyer who wants more room than a two bedroom two bath place. Townhomes are truly defined by this development.
