Complicated.....We chose this hotel because of the proximity to where we wished to be ( the University next day) and NOT for it's surroundings, which is a type of industrial estate - clean, but definitely NOT attractive, just convenient. The hotel itself was modern - middle size - adequate parking and well lit at night . OK for the outside, but room curtains shut out only a percentage of the light. Still, the rooms themselves are VERY clean, modern ( probably recently refurbished ) and tastefully decorated, albeit not massively large, but not small neither...! Bathroom perfect, reception area and breakfast room too, plus there are two lounge areas also large enough and pleasantly modern ...all in all a pleasant hotel run by a pleasant couple who cared for most of your wishes. Breakfast was ok, fresh and nicely presented, but, to be honest, not of exceptional value at 9.90 per guest, also an atmosphere I would say correct, clean, and with a super massive TV screen without the sound - good ! Also an ingenious "instrument" for capping your eggs, but if you've never encountered one before, you would never know...! It works, also the "egg boiling bath," complete with baskets, spoons, hot water etc etc -it works, thats the main thing ! Other items, mostly pre-packed, individual portions of jams, yoghurts and meat products in their own purpose built fridge, meats too, hygienically and individually packed - may all be a little surgically clean, and cared over from the owner who is there to see that you get it right - selection of bread, pastries and good coffee making machine, individual cups of coffee or tea and juice machine. Unfortunately, our " acceuil" after a 7 hour drive was quite unpleasant due to an altercation with the owner, which was absolutely unnecessary and avoidable. One doesn't book an hotel to be told what to do or what not to do, especially on arrival! I arrive in very many hotels of varying quality and standards quite regular, know the procedures, rules and regulations...but at the end of the day, I AM the paying guest. Guests are after long journeys to get to their chosen hotel often stressed by the drive and complicated route to getting somewhere, especially here in France. This, by normal standards - is taken into account The w-ifi code system, was also complicated, but this is probably the fault of the telecommunication company - easy and simple isn't in their vocabulary. However, like the egg- bath, it worked in the end....... The restaurant recommendation they have is super, I had, unknowingly booked it myself prior - in the harbour of Brest - plus free aperitif offered compliments of the hotel-retauarant connection, but beware........ driving down there ( and back ) is complicated..... egg-bath / wi-fi / access and check in too....." á la manière française " C'est la vie...??? Life should be made pleasanter and simpler, not the other way round!

A very pleasant stay in BrestWe stayed at the hotel Loval for 3 nights in July. Loic and Valerie, the owners, are super friendly, extremely helpful and take pride in the hotel. They suggested restaurants in Brest as well as day trips around Brest. The location of the hotel is perfect for day trips throughout Finistere (western Brittany). The rooms are impeccably clean and the continental breakfast buffet was great with varied selection.

Warm Welcome & Exceptionally Clean HotelOne of the warmest and most helpful of welcomes we have received in a hotel. Also one of the most clean we have stayed in albeit a little basic but this didnt bother us as we only ever think of a hotel as a bed for the night. We didn't have the breakfast as a family emergency dictated that we unfortunatly had to cut our stay short. We agree that the hotel is a great base to explore from and although we knew that it was located on the outskirts of Brest, we were a little surprised exactly how far (a 15 min drive to the marina restaurants). If, like us, you like to enjoy a drink in the evening then this place wouldn't be for you. There is a bar in the hotel but it is only open from 7pm - 8.30pm and there is absolutely no where else near within walking distance. The hosts recommended some restaurants that we could eat in located by the marina and we chose the sea food one. We were not disappointed - the best sea food platter we have ever been served! We managed to get a table when it opened at 7pm although probably best to book a table as the place was packed. We would have rated this hotel a 5 out of 5 had it not have been for the remote location.
