  Characterful and comfortable guest house in a relaxed village

  A great find in the south-west of Madeira. Prazeres is a very pleasant, relaxed and rural-feeling village that nevertheless has several decent bars and restaurants, a supermarket, and is right next to the fast south coast road. It proved an excellent spot for exploring the western half of the island by car. The Casa da Cha is a newish single-storey building more or less in the centre of the village, with (I think) 10 rooms, all facing roughly north-west with patio doors on to their own small terraces (no view as such). My room was comfortable, clean and nicely furnished with a comfortable bed, included a small fridge/minibar, and the bathroom was spotless with a powerful shower and nice-sized bath. The breakfast room doubles up as a bar and tearoom, though (at least in winter) theres no-one on serving after 8pm. The only downside was being about 600m above sea level, Prazeres was rather chilly in the evenings (I was there in early January), and the orientation of the rooms meant that they were in the shade for most of the day. A small room heater was provided, but a heated towel rail would be useful. Of course in the summer this could be an advantage if you want some shade and coolness. Filipa and Michelle in reception were very helpful and willing to chat about the local area and life in Madeira in general - as was the lady who served breakfast whose name I didnt get. The only thing that stopped me giving this a 5* rating is the orientation of the rooms and lack of sun into them. However, I'd definitely stay here again at a warmer time of year.

  Exceptional value, modern clean and comfortable

  A new modern bed and breakfast in a motel style. Very comfortable rooms with individual private courtyard off each room. Off street parking. Pleasant dining room in garden setting and good breakfast.. Pleasant sitting room and bar. Great staff. Exceptionally reasonable prices including breakfast. Excellent bathroom including bidet. We wandered into the village to dine at Casa Grelhados for a good traditional evening meal. It was misty weather which added to the mountain feel. It was spring time. In the evening in the room we had a couple of mosquitos which we killed. There were no more and none experienced in the rest of the property or on our evening walk into the village... Highly recommend this establishment with very caring staff. Quiet location. wi fi in lounge / bar area

  Good value. Lovely staff.

  The staff were kind and friendly and made us feel very welcome. Good breakfast, clean rooms and great value. Good base for walkers. All in all a really positive experience. Close to Calheta and pretty Jardim do Mar. Nice levada walk nearby. Close to Paul da serra.
