    Not bad, but needs improvement

I spent 4 nights in this hotel and did not have a bad stay. The bed is OK and the rooms are clean. There is a very nice sea view and the staff is very friendly and helpful. But there is an issue with maintenance. The AC worked in the bed room only, not in the sitting room, but the water from the AC was leaking on the carpet instead of outside... after 3 days half of the carpet was wet. the TV did not work at all. There is no hot water which is however not really a big issue in Djibouti. depending on the price you negotiate, if you don't expect a palace, it can be a fair deal.

    Fair price....fair hotel

The presidential suite of the hotel is lovely with an excellent view...the furnishings are a wee bit old fashioned..bed was comfy and the jacuzzi worked well...there was no a/c in the lobby and the manager was very honest about the fact that they don't put it on when there are few guests at the hotel..Djibouti has very expensive electricity... All in all...the hotel is conveniently located and with a bit of work can easily be the second or third best option for tourists coming to Djibouti who are desirous of getting good accommodation at a reasonable price. ...

If you fear rats, keep off

The hotel has an elegant look and hoped the service would be the same but it was disappointing. It seems they have run down the hotel such that for a hotel of its stature, one would expect better. They charge US 110 for bed and breakfast . My first disappointment was that the TV only had Arabic and French channels which means for those of us who know neither language, there was no entertainment. However, I would have coped with that as I had reading materials and sessions to prepare for. The greatest surprise came at a few minutes past midnight when a rat bit my finger and the pain woke me up. How did I know it was a rat, by the excrement on the bed-cover. I went to the reception and was lucky enough to get a room change. My room the following day was no better as a rat ran before I slept and when I requested for a room change, I was told the best thing was to have it trapped as the same may happen even if I were to go to another room. Consequently they placed a glue trap. I slept with the TV on and come morning, the rat was there trapped but alive. What I did was check out that morning and then went to look for a hotel later in the day. I found a hotel that was very clean for just more than half the price. The staff are good . However, the hotel is quickly running down. They need to fumigate the hotel, vacuum it since the staircase and rooms are carpeted, and work on providing all meals so that they can control hygiene. They also need to ensure lighting and water are sufficient since on the second day I had to get water brought in a bucket for me to take a bath. The hotel has the infrastructure but they need to seriously invest in it and manage it well. Considering their charges, they need to give value for money. Failure to do so will send them out of business as one would rather pay more but get better service. Will I go back there? Never.
