  A tasty Mom and Pop place

  My partner and I ate dinner here frequently during our two-week stay at a nearby hotel. We enjoyed the taste of real home cooking. The proprietor did the waiting, while his wife manned the kitchen, preparing dishes like (a Greek) mother makes. I always had the hotel's onion soup, which was some of the best I've ever tasted. The trouble was that there was such a vast bowl of it, when I asked for croutons, I hardly had room for anything else! My favourite dish was the lamb chops. In Greece, these are always very tasty, but tough. Ask for them to be well done, even if the waiter winces. In one restaurant, the waiter asked if I wanted them "burned as usual". My partner really liked the home-made moussaka and found the local wine pleasant. The prices were reasonable and the hospitality warm. It's sad to see that the Ilios, like most places in Samos, is suffering from the economic down-turn. Today, Samos is not the place for a cheap holiday. We became almost like family and, as Jane has already reported, we were given gifts of marmalade, made with oranges from the proprietor's own trees, on the night we left. We'll eat here again.

  Food galore

  Came here as staying at nearby hotel for the Sunday night BBQ. Great salad choice and amazing coleslaw! Plenty choice of meat and you can go up as many times as you like. Traditional family run hotel and restaurant.

  Even better then expected

  We booked this hotel as a cheaper 3 star allternative for a week. We were met in the reception by a very friendly lady who made us feel at home right away. The hotel looked a little lesser then some other more expensive hotels I have stayed with however the service was by far better and friendlier then just about any other place I have stayed. This is a family run hotel and you really can feel this in the atmosphere. Food, amazing.....don't bother eating any place else, all the meals here are home cooked and cheap priced. Cleanliness was also well up to standard as well. There are no safes in the room, no need for them because these are honest people working here who put your comfort and safety before anything else. What can I say, I love it here. We met some guests from a "fancier" hotel across the road who spent most of there time here instead due to the far friendlier service, better food and nicer atmosphere. This hotel does not try to impress for tips, they just are great people. Only minus, no TV in room but who needs TV when you have an ipad, free internet and great service! I give this 3 star hotel 5 stars for great service and great food from a great hotel staff. The town is within walking distance as well as the beach and supermarkeds. Thankyou Iona for a wonderful experience. Definately coming back some day!

  Wonderful Restaurant

  I ate at this restaurant 3 times as I was staying at the nearby Anthis studios. Lovely atmosphere and really pretty views. The food was AMAZING. I ate the best Moussaka I have ever had and the Stiffado was good. Really relaxing. I would definitely recommend.

  Ilios Taverna Pythagorio- Brilliant

  Ate here twice during our week in Pythagorio - we were staying down the road at Villa Anna during our recent break in Samos. Came here on the 1st night as tired after a days travelling and it is literally 5 mins up the road from where we were staying. While not full it was always busy, and it seemed as if a lot of customers were repeat visitors. Lovely Maitre'd, sorry I cannot remember your name, who did everything on his own. Food was really lovely Greek dishes, Stifado Kleftiko, Kokkinisto, etc, plus Pizzas, Souvlaki and such. The only reason we didn't eat here more often is that we do like to try other Tavernas during our stay. Food was good, plentiful and reasonably priced, 2 of us had 2 starters 2 mains 1lt wine and water and both nights it was around 30e for the lot. Definitely a place to visit for a hearty feed of great food at good prices
