Beautiful setting with basic chaletsWe were attending a wedding so the location was perfect for us. The chalets however are very basic (imagine on a budget Center Parcs). The staff were very helpful but you are in the middle of nowhere so you need a car if you want the flexibility of getting around and not paying expensive prices for dinner. From what we saw of the venue the pool was fab, the pool bar was ok (would benefit from a revamp) and the restaurant served good food for dinner and there was a good selection for breakfast but quite expensive at 15 euros.

Not bad, not greatThis place is very strange looking as and american. Its like a private members country club/west western lol. Stayed here for a wedding we had close by. Check in isnt until 4pm which is crazy- please fix this. And yes we got there early and had to wait till 4. Rooms were strange but clean. Our A/C didnt work great. Golf course was very nice and the pool was nice as well. Pizza at the pool was actually really good. The breakfast was possibly the worst Ive experienced in europe, and i know breakfast aint much anyway. Terrible.

Beautiful surroundings and nice staff, but the rest needs some looking intoWhen my boyfriend surprised me with a trip to a four star resort in the Tuscan countryside, I was well excited. The journey to reach the resort was out of a fairytale as well. However Il Pelagone ddI not meet our expectations. As soon as we arrived (we arrived with a taxi and not with our own car) the receptionist called the maintenance guy to drive us to our apartment in an old maintenance truck (!) and in two separate journeys. The truck ride surely wasnt the type of welcome we were expecting. The accommodation was a bit old fashioned, but overall clean and enjoyable. The resort itself is gorgeous, surrounded by nature and overlooking the golf course. The swimming pool area is also amenable and clean, and normally not overly crowded. The real deal breaker was the restaurant. Despite the staff being very friendly (big shoutout to Luigi, who had entertained our nights and had provide an amazing service and Anna, who has helped us with the wine choices in an exquisite way), the food choice is very poor. The menu is fixed, changes every evening, but there is no choice other than what is on the menu. There is a buffet with a small choice of veggies and some Italian cured meet, which looks like its been there for a good few days. The food from the menu is average if not poor. Desserts were actually okay and we did enjoy them. Make sure you avoid the chicken on BBQ night, as it is rare!!! To top it off, even if you have paid in advance for half pension, drinks are not included - no big deal if we are talking of wine bottles, but we spent an average extra 15 per night on water, which is served in overly expensive fancy glass bottles. Absolute rip off! The cherry on top of the cake is that checkout is only between 8am and 8pm, and this is only written on a tiny clause on the papers they give you upon arrival. This is apparently because they find it easier to close the money transactions earlier. This means that, if your flight is in the early morning, you either have to leave plenty of hours before your departure or fight with reception in order to pay outside of this ridiculous fixed time. Truly disappointed and genuinely surprised this is classified as a four star hotel.

We had a great time! There are a few things that make this place great - the staff, the grounds, the location - really were all amazing. We were staying in the new part of the hotel in a studio apartment - which is not old and tired as some of the reviews - its just not ultra-modern like some people seem to expect from a 4* - the room was IMMACULATE - it was cleaned every single day from top to bottom we were so impressed with the service and staff. We had opted for half board - having never done this we were pleasantly surprised. Breakfast was good continental and cooked set us up for the day and good timings doing this until 10:30. Dinner is served until 9:30 and yes there are some options that are not always to your taste (I am not a big fan of a veal escalope myself) but the food was always good quality - if you didnt like something the starters were always really good and you could see if they could do a main portion of it - the risotto and pastas I could have had three portions of it was so good! Perhaps my only suggestion is more of the authentic Italian! The house red is 12EUROS and really good we tried a few others but that was perfect for dinner. We went to Lidl (10 minute drive) and bought a few bottles to have in the evenings on the terrace after dinner if we didnt fancy the bar. I would highly recommended having your own car- we had hired one for £80 for the week (cheaper than 2 transfers from Pisa!) We explored so many different places and the private beach 15 minutes away was our go to at any time of day if we wanted a bit more sun or had finished our daily excursion. The team could not do more to help massive thank you to Daniele, Luigi and Giovanni - we honestly had such a great time and that was hugely down to how welcome and relaxed you made us feel from day 1 (we were the youngest by about 25 years and the only English people staying in the hotel which was what we were looking for in a bit of a quiet retreat but it is always nice to meet good people!) - they are an absolute credit. Thank you for a great week!

Great value in an awesome location in TuscanyThe location is great! And there are many things to do with kids! The staff is not very friendly though (to my surprise, since weve been to many other places in Italy and we had the opposite experience). And if you come during summer, be prepared to deal with wasps... everywhere!
