Great RyokanLovely ryokan close to Hakusan. The traditional Kaseki meals were excellent. Beautiful Onsen with both indoor and outdoor baths. Also a very nice lounge area with comfy chairs, We would definitely return.

Great dinner! We had booked this ryokan with a view to go skiing/boarding the next day. Sadly there was no snow so Ichirino ski resort was closed. This meant the hotel was quite empty as people had cancelled their trips. This worked out well for us as both the inside & outside baths are very small. The bedrooms are on the pokey side too & rather snug with 3 adults. The staff were friendly and one nice lady from Taiwan could speak English. Dinner was excellent, with a chance to try wild boar, river fish & local Hakusan tofu. The lounge has a log fireplace, watched over by a rather sorry looking stuffed wild bear. The "games area" needs a major update & considering the price of the rooms charging 300 yen/hour for table football is not on! When there is snow you can be on the slopes in a minute. Would return out of peak season.

An Unforgettable StayWe chose this hotel as it is next to a ski resort and we had an excellent stay here. We arrived this hotel from Kanazawa, by taking a bus to the Sena station. Originally, we had booked a complimentary transfer service from Sena station to the hotel at around 20:30. As we had finished our one day trip in Kanazawa earlier than expected, we called to the hotel by using the public phone and changed the pickup time to around 19:00. The bus arrived Sena station at 19:40 due to the heavy snow but we were unable to contact the hotel about the delay as we did not have Japan SIM card. Big thanks to the hotel staff as he was very patient and reliable that he waited for us under heavy snow for more than half an hour at the station. Otherwise, we might have some trouble and would have stuck at the bus station. After arriving at the hotel, we immediately felt being welcomed by the receptionist. The check-in was efficient and hotel information was clearly explained. We went to have dinner immediately after check-in as the dinner was prepared and waiting for our arrival. The female server was so attentive that she provided the most excellent service that we had ever encountered. Room - The room we stayed was nice and beautifully decorated. The tap in bathroom had a bit water leakage but it was just a minor thing. Hot Spring There were outdoor and indoor hot springs. The weather was so cold that we thought they were not hot enough. There were a wide range of Yukata in hotel lobby that we could choose from. Food - We stayed for 2 nights and we found the hotel was attentive that they served different menus of dinner and breakfast. And we like the breakfast and dinner menus of first night more than the second night. On the check-out day, our phone alarm did not work so we didnt go to have breakfast on time. The food were cold but we understood we were late. But I would suggest the kitchen to keep the food warm instead of leaving the food cold and serve to the guests. The check-out was also smooth and free transfer to Sena station was also provided. The overall stay was great and I would definitely stay in this hotel again in the future.

A very rustic ryokanI am sure Hakusan is the place to be in winter. However we visited in August, therefore therefore it was very quiet. I hchirino is relatively old. A refurbishment is required. The staff spoke minimal English. They were helpful. There were pamphlets of the sister hotel 30 minutes drive up the road where there is a natural onsen open to guests. We were sent there by the staff to find that the sister hotel is so run down it looked like a haunted building. The lobby stank of mould, so , we did not venture into the building. The dinners and breakfasts were good. The onse was fine. The water is of very good quality as it is directly from the mountains.

A hidden gem in Japan! From the beautiful nature surrounding the hotel to the calm and warm staff that will always help you with a smile, everything about this place is relaxing. The room is big, comfortable, and quiet. Traditional japanese style (which I found is better for my back). The onsen is big and has many amenities, with hot termal water that comes straight out of the mountains. And the restaurant is simply something out of a movie. Every single piece on their menu is a work of art. From sushi to barbecued fish, tofu and wild boar. So many delicious things to chose from. Having dinner or breakfast there you will feel in another time in history. You will exit this hotel happier and more relaxed.
