    Dreadful cannot describe our stay.

A big warm welcome from Denise at reception made us think we had made a good choice in Ballyvaughan..This feeling was short lived. First of all our toilet would not flush and our room was like an attic room with a velux window. The toilet got sorted but for 2 nights we were there was a problem with the toilet and there was a constant drip.. Now the reason we did not complain is as follows.. . Our first night we were advised by David at reception that we were welcome to a sandwich and due to covid we could also have a drink .. when we arrive what turned out to be the proprietor was the most ignorant person we have ever encountered.. she gave us a lecture on covid -19 telling us that she had removed all the stools from the bar and how could we think we could go to the bar.. I tried to say that we were looking for a light bite to eat but she overpowered us basically and i then said we would go back to our room. I then mentioned David saying we could have a drink and sandwich and she relented then and said it was ok to sit in the lobby... we were really annoyed at this point and decided only to have a drink... what can I say the service was appalling waiting at least half an hour for a drink....The proprietor then passed by and told us that two of her staff had let her down. One rang in sick and one just did not turn up.... her back was broken from washing dishes????? next night we had a table booked. we were landed almost on top of the door into the restaurant and when we asked David if we could be changed he replied very abruptly saying"no" then saying "well you can wait outside until a table is free" There was a table set for 4 beside us and we were astonished to see 6 people inc 3 children coming to sit at it. I don't know where the social distancing was here... we up and left even having ordered a drink. my husband confronted the manager who just shrugged his shoulders...We had a fab meal at "monks" in Ballyvaughan then. highly recommended. Overall Management were not prepared for re-opening they were under staffed but most of all they were the worst example of Irish hospatility we have ever received. We understand things are difficult at these times but manners cost nothing and the management don't have any Denise and the rest of the staff were really lovely. Our opinion of this hotel is zero. They want money but are not prepared to offer service... Loved Ballyvaughan but Hylands a disaster.

Excellent family run hotel Best staycation ever

First impressions very favourable. David the manager was warm and welcoming. Rooms clean and beds first class. Mattresses deep and comfortable. We were a party of 4 - two couples. Everyone very happy with our break. Staff maintained social distancing and hygiene practices were very obviously observed. Food each evening was superb with fresh fish caught locally and cooked to perfection. Breakfast was booked on previous evening and served at allocated time. Good variety especially fresh fruit salad and smoked salmon. Will certainly return. Highly recommended

    3 Day Weekend Stay

Stayed at the Hyland Burren Hotel for 3 nights with my wife for our wedding Anniversary. From the time of arriving on Friday and been checked in by the very helpful Denise who explained very clearly the COVID 19 protocols for our stay which were adhered to by all of the staff through out our stay,The room was spacious with Tea or Coffee making if required, large TV and a very comfortable bed,Had dinner on two of the nights and the food was excellent with especially the Fish dishes and Desserts. The restaurant staff were very helpful and very prompt,.The full Irish Breakfast in the morning which we both had set us up for the days activities,a mention also to David on reception who was also very professional in running a good team of staff. Will be back.

    A Burren welcome

The Hylands Burren Hotel gave us a warm welcome and are coping very calmly with the restrictions the Covid-19 pandemic has placed on us all. The room was comfortable, the location is right in the heart of Ballyvaughan, and the restaurant food was excellent (the duck starter was delicious).

The fountain bar food was very good

We ate in the fountain bar on a Saturday night. The food was delicious and the servers were very attentive. The only thing that was slightly annoying was the servers clearing the plates of some guests while others still ate. One of the group was offered a dessert menu while others ate their main, it made things feel a bit rushed! But other than that, it was a very pleasant evening. We would recommend!
