I felt like a king in his castle! Hidden gem!We stayed here for unfortunately only one night, would comeback to stay longer! The hotel has an authentic castle feeling and this can also be seen in all the rooms. Not only the rooms were nice, also the grounds around the castle make you really feel like a King and Queen. We also had breakfast at the castle, it was a decent breakfast with candle lights! Overall, had a great stay and would certainly comeback for this hidden gem!

A hidden gem in a picturesque countrysideSpent a special wedding anniversary there for 2 nights ! A delightful place to spend it indeed . The room was elegant & romantic - the evening dinner was delicious & service was attentive ! Breakfast was ample - except it is not included hence when you enter the dining room In the morning you see your room number at a table setting and set up with delicious breakfast food - thinking this is included in your room . However it is not ... an additional 100 kr? Per person was added per day ... more information should be mentioned upon check in ... such as will you be joining us for breakfast? That aside the Hvedholm Castle is a wonderful place to spend some quality time - in addition the city of Faaborg is not far away - or take a drive around in the picturesque area is also a possibility ! Definitely a place to host a special event - such as a wedding, special anniversary, or christening . We did not have the opportunity to visit the castles wine cellar - well leave that for our next visit

Overall a good experienceWe arrived here in December, so definitely off season. Few guests, but we got an OK room in the castle itself. As we had booked the cheapest alternative, we should otherwise have been in what was called the side wing, which actually was not part of the main castle. Good to know when you book. We arrived by car and parked outside the entrance, where we expected to see the reception. This, however, was reached after passing on into the courtyard. A signpost outside would have been good. There was nobody at the reception when we arrived, punctually at 3 PM, but after waiting a while and looking around for somebody, a receptionist showed up, and we got our room key and basic information. Our room was on the upper floor (2nd) and no elevator (only for staff), but luckily we didn't carry much luggage. The room was quite small, but nicely equipped like it should be in a castle. Wine and water (both charged) was presented at the coffee table. The free wifi worked fine. The bathroom was rather small, and the toilet was of some kind of a suction type, but it worked fine. We made a reservation for dinner at 7 PM, and read in the hotel information that we could spend the time before dinner in the parlour next to the restaurant and have a drink. However, nobody showed up to serve us, so we went for the dinner and picked a table. After a while the waiter showed up and we got the menu card. The selection was quite limited, but OK for us, having a main course and cheese afterwards. The main meal was cod, locally caught, and it was absolutely fresh and well seasoned. We got a Rosso Montalcino, with the fish. After the meal we ordered Irish coffee, and had that served in the neighbouring room with sofas. Next morning we had a very nice breakfast, being served by a very kind lady, showing us great hospitality. We had bread, rolls and a lot of other delicacies brought to the table and on the buffet we got eggs and pancakes. This breakfast is well worth mentioning. Checking out was quick and easy. All in all a fine stay, with a few flaws, but with a flavour of castle romance. The castle has its long, rich history, which you can read about in the information folder, also informing that it had served as a mental hospital for over 50 years, until 1993. Unbelievable.

Perfect to stay in a castleOne night while on a road trip in Denmark. Extra special to stay in a castle, albeit a small one. Easy check in. Comfortable rooms. Lovely gardens. It would be good to have more time to explore. As it is in the country, we ate dinner in the restaurant. Very good food. Would love to visit again.

Few surprises in the woodsAll in all an ok experience, but few surprises in the woods outside Faaborg city. Large buildings with atomosphere, if not charm. Large room with four beds even if we were only two persons. The distance to the city center means the dinner is almost default, ok cuisine but nothing more. Compared to overall food, wine and prices in Denmark, I would rate their dinner below average on value for money.
