    Worst hotel ever

Even for the price it is overpriced!! Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Delapidated is an understatement. Did not meet any members of staff other than the bar maid. How this hotel can stay open is beyond me. Avoid at all costs

Worst Hotel in 40 years of travel

I booked 3 rooms Sept. 6 to 8th back in early May. When we arrived we were told they would not honor our reservation. Due to the Highland Games this was the only hotel with 3 rooms. After a long debate they found 3 rooms. The rooms were so small we had to walk sideways to get around the bed. No hot water (excuses: forgot to turn on the boiler). The bathroom was tiny, shower almost too small to enter and mold every where a wall met the floor. Mold in the shower was major. Health Issue!! Wallpaper pealing, dirty carpet and floors, no maid service while there, whole hotel dirty. All 3 rooms had the same condition as well as many other people told us. Rare to find any person at the front desk. Breakfast was a joke. Phone hidden behind desk, other rooms had phones but they were not connected. Advice: Do not ever book this poor excuse for a hotel.

Couldn't bring myself to check in

For some unknown reason I booked to stay here for one night at the end of September - without checking Trip Advisor for reviews first. I won't ever do that again! To say I was horrified at the reviews is an understatement. How this place can still operate is unbelievable. So - having decided to not even step over the threshold and walk away from the £50 I pre-paid for a room - let me explain why I still feel the need to share my opinion here. I contacted the booking agent with my concerns. Of course, as a large 'third-party' corporation they "divorced" themselves from getting involved, other than allegedly to contact the hotel to make sure that my room would be clean and I would have hot water. When they emailed to give me the glad tidings that these requests would be met, to be honest my heart sank. I wanted them to tell me all the reviews were utter rubbish and there is nothing wrong with the hotel. Sadly - confirming that I would have hot water and a clean room just made things worse. Those are basic fundamentals you should never have to ask a hotel if they can actually provide. After securing far superior accommodation not far away in Dess I made sure that on the day I was in Aboyne to drive up to the Huntly Arms and parked right outside to see it first-hand. Talash Hotels - who I believe are current owners - you should be utterly ashamed of yourselves. In its prime this would have been a stunning historic building. Now, it's dilapidated. Rotten, dirty windows, stuff piled up in front of some of them - it looks dark, dingy and disgusting. I suspect your main revenue source is the bar. For heaven's sake - if you are not going to restore this building to the grandeur it deserves then pass it to someone who can. I suggest you take a look at the Fife Arms in Braemar to see how much is possible when it comes to refurbishing a historic building. It would be an utter crime to let this building fall into more of a rotten state - and it seems well on its way to doing so. It's a crying shame as it's in a prime tourist location. Come on guys - get your act together. I drove away sad at its state of disrepair but with an overwhelming feeling of relief that I had somewhere else to go. I suspect even Alex Polizzi - aka. the Hotel Inspector would run screaming from this place .......

    Seriously let down

We booked this hotel as we were going to a function in Aboyne it was booked several months in advance and two weeks before our date we fortunately heard from a third party that it was closing that week. I called the hotel and they confirmed that it was closing but had no record of my booking although I had two email conversations with them about a room on a low floor and about early entry as we had to get changed for a wedding. There was no apologies whatsoever, I would avoid this place like the plague.

    Closed until further notice

Yes I visited The Tavern a redecorated annexe of the now closed Huntley Hotel.(awaiting new owners) Christmas decorations made this place and Aboyne really pretty. We enjoyed the warmth of a good fire! drinks well served and the local's company. Note: No food available.
