Nice place to stay in central ShijiazhuangThe hotel has a nice central location, and a very good restaurant for dinner. The rooms are large, comfortable and clean. There are also tea making facilities in the room, as well as internet access. Breakfast has a wider selection of Chineese food, but also provides coffee, toast and yogurth, which is more to my taste in the morning, as well as fresh fruit. Some noise from the traffic below, but not bad for the city centre.

OK hotelThis hotel is OK, it is a 'business' hotel which from a westerners point of view is a bit more like a bog standard Holiday Inn but a bit more dated. Our room was a decent size and the breakfast was good enough, mostly Chinese foods to choose from rather than toast/cereal etc. The room itself was a little bit grubby but the bedding was all clean so nothing too terrible! The staff spoke a bit of English and helped us out with train tickets etc but we had to take quite a lot of time explaining what we were after. We stayed in Shijiazhuang because we had a Lonely Planet book which had suggested there were things to see in the area - our two day trips (Zhengding and a stone village) were good in the end but in retrospect I wouldn't stop off here again just for them. Be prepared to be stared at (even more than usual) because there are absolutely no westerners about here!

StandardPresuming you're in town for business then this will do the job, unless you're looking for something more upmarket. The restaurant is good quality for dinner and the breakfasts are standard buffet. Rooms are roomy if a little noisy (even on 26th floor I could hear the distant rumble of the traffic). There are some excellent restaurants opposite alongside the usual branded shopping mall. Also a very cool jazz bar hidden around the corner. Good value at this level of comfort which more than does the job for this reasonably seasoned China visitor.
