The hotel is rather secondary to the restaurant

The hotel has no reception and you have to ring to be let in! It took a while to raise anyone at 5.50pm. after a long drive. Eventually we were let in only to be repremanded before anything else was said for booking via an agency and next time remember to book direct as it is better for them (not for us!). Also, we were told that the restaurant was already full but we could book for another day. The room was spotlessly clean with modern decor, and the location is nice, with lovely sand beaches which become deserted within a short distance south - and lovely for walking. The 'sea-view' rooms are only oblique to the sea, but still worth the extra. There is no direct access from the hotel to the restaurant, which must be annoying in bad weather. The lady owner rather seems to run everything, and particularly the restaurant with a rod of iron, making the serving staff seemingly scared stiff to smile. Understand the husband is the chef of the one Michelin star restaurant - which is certainly very good, but could benefit from relaxing a bit. There did seem to be a bit of a preference for looking after the French clientele, which may be no more than a French idiosyncrasy. Breakfast was very nice but (apart from the variety of homemade conserves) was identical every day for our three days' stay - and once served, there was no follow up or further attention - not even an offer of more coffee - which was poor. At least one dinner in the restaurant is worth while, but there are other good restaurants nearby as well. All in all OK, but it presently lacks something to make it really good. Nothing was entirely easy - even the WiFi had to be requested.

nice location to have a bike holiday and visiting the Vendée. The city La Rochelle en Ile De Ré. Nice beaches and interland. Very good restaurants and seafood. A good place to have a homiday with kids

    Wonderful food, excellent service.

We have stayed here for one week for each of the last three years and have taken demi pension, eating every night in the restaurant. In all of those 21 meals, we have never eaten a poor course. At its best the food is sensationally good, the wine list is very good and the service is first rate. All this for the modest price of 45 euros each for breakfast and dinner. There is also a great sea view from the restaurant. The hotel has everything most people need. Good bed, very clean, with a separate, private outside sitting area and there is even a kettle with tea bags. For British customers there is the added bonus that Jean Marc speaks fluent English. It's really very good indeed. Do yourself a favour: try it.

    Outstanding

Greeted with a smile, a chit with the door lock number and a wifi code. The room was ideal for a stopover, compact and clean with a balcony through sliding glass doors giving an oblique view of the sea. The ensuite facilities were excellent including a walkin shower. Dinner was taken in the restaurant attached but reached via the exterior of the building with our table facing the sea. The menu was expensive but the food on offer was extraordinarily good. Each plate was a work of art including amuse bouche and other extras. Service was really friendly and precise. We experienced a wonderful evening and stopover.

    Room with a view

We stayed for one day with our dog. We had a room with a balcony with a nice view of the beach. I recommend room #12. It's at the far end on the 1st floor. Beware, if you stay at this hotel, the beach across the street isn't dog friendly. You'll have to drive Petit Pont which is a 10 min drive north. Reserve restaurant in advance. It was totally booked out on a Wednesday night.
