Ok for a couple of nights

I stayed for a night at the hotel whilst in town on business. Good points were: Location is fantastic, literally round the corner from the main square Reception staff were amazing Room was clean and tidy Decent quality breakfast Bad Points; I was on the ground floor and the floors above must be wooden as I heard the person above come in at 11:30pm The main soil pipe came via my room so the morning was interesting There was no main AC unit which wasnt an issue whilst there, but it could be. Check in closes at 8 so if an a late flight you need to let them know. Conclusion; If I was there for a night or two, Id say again. Any longer Id probably look else where or ask for a top floor room.

Nice little hotel in a central location, yet a bit overpriced

We stayed here on the last weekend of October to have some beach walks and visit the Nacht van de Nacht in neighbouring Middelburg. We had booked a deluxe double room which was situated on the first floor. It had a quite decent size (especially for Dutch standards) while the bathroom was a bit on the smaller side. The rooms features were above standard for a three-star accommodation, with a hairdryer, toiletries, coffee and tea facilities, a minibar and a safe. The bed was comfortable and thankfully not as soft as most other hotel beds in the Netherlands. We also appreciated the fact that it had one large mattress in contrast to the two single ones which you would find everywhere else in this country. It would have been nice to have one large blanket instead of two smaller ones, but thats also a matter of personal taste, of course. There were nightstands on either side of the bed with lamps and additional power outlets, good for recharging our phones overnight. The linens, the furniture and the carpet were in good shape and very clean. The water pressure in the shower could have been a bit higher, but it was bearable. The fact that the hotel is located in an old building brings about the problem of squeaking floors and thin walls between rooms, so your fate depends a bit on the consideration of other guests. We were lucky to have quiet neighbours, yet my sleep was severely disturbed on multiple occasions by party people who left the city centers bars yelling and roaring. That is not the hotels fault, of course, just something to be remembered when booking a centrally located hotel for a weekend night. The buffet breakfast was quite decent and above average for this hotel category. It had a good selection of food and the plates with cold cuts were nicely decorated. The coffee from the machine was good as well. The setting in the old vault was unique but could have been a bit cozier with warmer lighting and maybe some candles or tea lights on the tables. The service at breakfast left a lot to be desired. When we walked in we were completely ignored, the staff literally walked past us without saying anything. My husband reported that one of the two women said Good morning to him afterwards when he was at the buffet, but I have not heard a single word or seen a smile from staff for the whole duration of our breakfast. That made the atmosphere not very welcoming, to say the least. The service at check-in and checkout was the complete opposite: Both women at the reception were exceptionally friendly and polite, in a genuine way. Thats why our first and last impression of the hotel was a good one - well done. We also appreciated that they had taken our request for a quiet accommodation into account and given us a room on the backside of the building (which unfortunately didnt help much against the yelling party people whose echoes were heard all over the place). All in all, we were satisfied with our decision for Hotel Zilt. Our stay was flawless apart from the nightly disturbances (for which I dont blame the hotel) and the unfriendly service at breakfast. We were just not quite sure whether the accommodation was really worth the money we paid (EUR 86,20 with Booking.com Genius discount, otherwise EUR 95). In our opinion it was a little overpriced, a regular rate in the range of EUR 75 would have been more appropriate. As an advice for guests travelling by car: The hotel does not have its own parking garage but sells parking permits for street parking. We did not make use of it because there is a huge parking lot (Koningsweg) at just five minutes walking distance. The first three hours are free (but dont forget that you still have to get a free ticket from the machine and display it on your dashboard!), after that it costs EUR 2 per hour (between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.) with a maximum day tariff of EUR 4. Sundays have paid parking, too, with the exception of extra Shopping Sundays (every last Sunday of the month). In the winter months (November to March) the hourly rate is EUR 1,5 and Sunday parking is generally free.

    Feel at home

We stayed two nights during the second half of November 2019. A small hotel in the old center of the beautiful town of Vlissingen. Very friendly and helpfull staff. For a three star hotel is the room good sized, perfect bed and unbelievable clean. We had room nr.1 which have a beautiful bathroom and again very clean. Fantastic breakfast in the old cellar.

    Just Right

Hotel Zilt may not have the trappings of the larger corporate hotel chains, but what it has in spades, is rustic charm and most welcoming staff. Plumb central Vlissingen within walking distance of the ship yard as well as the array of eateries and bars. A most enjoyable stay.
