At your own riskLet's start with the positives: large and confortable room, large and nice bathroom BUT... We were looking forward staying at Hotel VIII in the marvelous city of Regensburg after having checked its good ratings on Tripadvisor. We had driven 600km from Poland when we arrived and were shocked with disappointment: the whole surroundings are a big construction site. Opposite the hotel, a large museum is being built (delivery: sometime in 2018). The street, the pavements and the little square were littered with piles of sand, pieces of machinery and security fences, all of this coming alive before 8:00am! Inside the hotel, the sight was not better: workers were busy fixing things in the corridor leading to the stairs (no lift). We asked the nice young lady at the bar (no reception desk) to talk to the manager. A few minutes later, a man knocked on the door. Wearing sneakers, short pants and a Tshirt, he would not introduce himself. As I explained that we were quite disappointed, his only and blunt answer was that things had to be done. No explanation, no smile, no politeness, not a trace of apology. This first conversation ended quickly. We managed to sleep well because we had earplugs, do NOT forget them. There is not built-in air-conditioning but a noisy stand-alone appliance. As the weather was very hot, we had to choose between opened windows and the street noise or closed windows and the noise of the air-conditioner. In the morning, chaos! The same man in the same outfit started arguing first with my wife then with me about a print-out of our reservation we had requested. He was totally out-of-control, pointing his fingers to us, teaching us lessons of politeness, threatening to call the police (please do!), making a fool of himself in front of the staff and other guests. We escaped and had breakfast outside. As we returned to check out, a nice lady, introducing herself as the manager expressed her deepest apologies about the behaviour of .... the cook! We paid the price of the night (a meager 150!) and left behind one the the most unpleasant hotel experience of our life.

Great hotel but construction took some gloss offThis is a really hard one. The hotel itself is magnificently located near the Danube. The rooms are beautiful, staff friendly although no English presented some challenges, breakfast outstanding. The trouble is the massive construction site - a huge museum being built directly across the road meant that the area around was a bomb site. To be fair it didn't stop us enjoying the stay but the price was probably a bit steep considering the disruption. Would be 5 stars all day without the construction issues.

Not for early birdsbut its really a nice place to stay. The hotel is on top of a nice cafe at one corner of the historic old town. The rooms are designed diverse and individual giving the place a special feel. However they dont have a lift so travel light. Since the cafe closes by 7 or 8, please check, you should avoid coming late for checkin. Once done that head out for dinner in the historic old town of Regensburg. If you have time, look for something different its a great place.

Small hotel near the riverWe stayed here on a Danube bike trip, and enjoyed this place. It is very small, and the cafe attached serves as the hotel lobby. The woman running the cafe was extremely helpful and friendly. The room was very nice, large, well furnished. At night it was quiet with the windows open. We were happy to have found this hotel and would stay here if in Regensburg again.

Amazing locationGorgeous boutique hotel in old town Regensburg. Would doubly recommend this if you are catching a river cruise from here as it is literally across the road from where the cruise boats are docked. We only had to cross the road and walk to our pier. Tidy nice sized rooms with a cafe underneath. A short 5-7 taxi ride from the train station. Would stay here again
