Expensive for a basic standard hotelThe building itself is absolutely stunning as are the surroundings. Because of this it is a particular shame that the hotel is very, very basic - maximum three stars. The standard of the suite we stayed at is unfortunately all time low for me. Bed was old and uncomfortable, towels cheapest you can get, bathroom in desperate need of refurb and mold in the minibar. Also no view of any kind from the room. Breakfast also very basic standard. For 250-300/night suite this presented really low value for money.

Biggest hotel deceipt ever! This is the biggest hotel deceit that I have ever seen in my life. 600 Euro per night, a luxury mansion built in the beginning of the 20th century, a beautiful lake. And what you get is a 2,5 star hotel (though they claim 3 to 4) with awful food, terrible rooms, beds where you cant sleep, not working A/C and bar with restaurant that close at 9 p.m. I was shocked. The rooms are not intended to be cleaned, so are the tables at breakfast, look how they cook fried eggs. We bought 1 orange and 1 pear on the first day in the bar and the next day they had no more. Half of the menu (which is poor by itself) is not available. Instead of a king-size bed we got two of the half-size, I think. One cant fit on a bed of this size. The only other good thing here was the staff people are truly friendly and smiling. I took some pictures of the place, so that you understand the reality of it. It is such a pity that this place is not owned by a top 5-star hotel network. It could have been a pearl of the region the nature is extremely beautiful around it and the mansion itself is great. If one day I will decide to go into hotel industry, this would be among the first I purchase, renovate, upgrade and let people all over the world enjoy Vanajanlinna! FYI maximum price for such a living at the moment 100-150 Euro.

Amazing setting, poor executionI stayed here with my partner for 2 nights early July. First impression is just wow! Place is really beautiful and charming. Unfortunately, there are so many problems here that I cannot give more than 2 stars. - Food is overpriced and just plain simply...bad. We had dinner here and I have never eaten in a place that serves such subpar dishes at such high price. Prices are comparable to fine dining, but you can get better food at gas station. And I am serious about this. Same thing continued with breakfast which was again...extremely disappointing. - Room that we stayed was extremely worn out and in serious need of renovation. Luckily we stayed at summer because in the winter, that room is inhabitable. What else about the room...oh yeah, we didn't have toilet paper there! We had to call reception and wait 20 mins to get toilet paper delivered to us. - Pretty Sauna at the lakeside is for private events only. So no chance at all for guests to go and have a sauna and swim there. Place is really pretty and charming and worth a visit, but I wouldn't recommend staying in this hotel.

Disappointing stayWe stayed here for one night and chose it as it was marketed as a romantic deal: accommodation with breakfast and dinner for two. Stayed at the rooms situated 300 meters from the main building and room was far from romantic, very outdated. Also our request to make the beds together (to form a double bed) was ignored despite the e-mail confirmation of it being handled. Additionally our information of the other dining guest being vegan had been forgotten about or ignored as the waiter started telling me about the delicious beef thats on the menu, after which I had to kindly remind him Im vegan. Food was below average, nothing special. Mainly the hotel comes across as ignorant towards guests and their requests, I would merely recommend this place as a quick stop-over, when you are not expecting anything special. Definitely not worth the money. Reception offered snacks (pringles, light drinks) as compensation, which I didnt think really covers the disappointment.

Sloppy on the detailsIn a place aiming for luxury, it is the small details that matter and here they fail: no warm water in the shower, mediocre breakfast, fraudulent minibar menu. I did mention about the fact that bottles were smaller (that is more expensive) than in the menu, but the receptionist did not seem to care. On the plus side: tranquil, friendly service, spacious rooms.
