    Great Value And Staff

Situated just at the end of the towns main street is Hotel Uni Palas ONE, we enjoyed 3 nights here from June 13, car parking was on the street we were offered assistance with our luggage. Our room was spacious had air conditioning Wi-Fi and was very clean. The staff were friendly and willing to assist with local knowledge, breakfast, served in the bar was the usual range with fruit available and coffee from an espresso machine, we thought it was excellent value.

    Average at most

First of all, the staff was very kind and let us stay with our dogs. Room was clean, everything including ac worked. Cons: very disappoiting breakfast, uncomfortable bed, no fridge in the room. I guess other hotels in the city offer more for the price( if you dont have dogs).

    Service seems optional

There are few options for the weary traveller in Kavadarci, Macedonia. We booked into this hotel as it was closer to the centre of town than the other options. Pros The air conditioning unit works well Room was clean and tidy A restaurant is connected to the hotel Food isn't too bad. Wifi is available. Cons TV worked intermittently. Shower had no where to position the shower head so you could shower with both hands free. You can sit in the restaurant for a while before getting an ash tray whether you smoke or not. It's at this point you should attempt to order a drink or get a menu. Menus will arrive later. Don't rush to read it as it will be sometime before a waiter comes to take your order. Staff sit around either smoking or placing bets at the nearby betting office. It's not hard to notice that your glass is empty and offer you another drink! I've spent nearly three weeks travelling around Macedonia and this hotel has provided the worst service so far. However, it is clean.

Lies, Loud Noise, and Lack of Hospitality

Boy am I excited to write this review. It all began with me inquiring about a room, I said we were two people and a dog. We agreed on a price and I went to retrieve my partner. When we walked across the street, the guy said, "problem." He was referring to the dog. Ok, the word was lost in translation. Five Euro more. Then, he refused to let my partner go to an ATM to get more money. I'm not sure what would have happened if we weren't able to scrap up the correct amount of cash. The room itself was clean and they allowed us to store our bikes in the office. At dinner, our server, who spoke no English, became frustrated when we tried to charade a question to him, left us in a huff, and began to clean the table next to us. A few minutes later, he motioned us inside to speak with someone on the phone to translate our order. Around 10PM, we began to hear loud music. It sounded like elephants were singing karaoke. Great, we thought. At midnight, the music was still going. Infuriated, I went downstairs to complain. Twenty meters outside our room was a party going on with the loud music, the doors were open, and they were using the bathroom right next to our room. When I approached the staff, they all looked at me and said, "music?" Yep, I replied. One got on the phone with someone and another told me the music would end in 15 minutes. I asked for the manager and was told she wasn't there, but would be in at 7AM. Great, we were cycle touring and it was going to be a hot day. We wanted to leave around then. The music didn't end until 2AM. We weren't going to leave without a refund. We woke up at 7 to see the manager and was told she wouldn't be in until 10. I asked if there was an assistant manager. No. She was the only one who could help. After asking the staff to call her, they said that she wasn't answering, but had tried several times. They then told us that they had the legal right to have music until 1AM and that if we wanted a refund, then we should have left in the middle of the night. When the owner finally waltzed in around 11AM, no one told us it was her. We demanded a refund and she refused, saying that we got what we paid for, which was a place to sleep. When we told her that we didn't because we weren't able to sleep, she told us that we should have left in the middle of the night. She said that I could have asked her about it last night when I came downstairs, because she was sitting outside at a table. Strange, her staff told me she wasn't there. She screamed at us, refused a refund, told us that because we're Americans that we expect certain things, and threatened to send us to jail. I left telling her that she needs to inform her guests that there will be a discotheque going on down the hall and she said that didn't matter. Needless to say, we didn't get our refund and we experienced the most inhospitable hotel stay of our lives. This woman was incredibly rude and didn't care about our comfort and her staff lied to us throughout our stay. Stay far, far, far away from this place.

    Hotel Uni Palas 1.

I stayed there for about 2 weeks in November 2015 and it wasn't as bad as several 2012 reviews made it out to be. Perhaps they have improved since then? My only complaint was that the pizza I ordered was tasteless. On the plus side the chicken pie with cheese was good. There is a side entrance for after midnight admissions and there was always a man just inside the ground floor of the hotel waiting and watching for guests and sleeping intermittently in the interim. The bus station is right across the street so no need for a taxi. It's a short walk to the heart of Kavadarci. On a related note you need to prearrange a meal at Tikves winery the day before. I turned up about 3:30 pm and it was closed for the day. I guess in summer this isn't a problem but in November it was. The rooms were clean, serviced often and staff were friendly. Aircon worked, toilets flushed, the shower head was intact and unbroken. On Friday nights there was a disco rock concert in the adjacent large room until 1 am. Not a huge problem. Stobi ruins can be reached by taxi for around 570 denar and you can catch the last 4:30 bus from the side of the highway going back. Just follow the ticket office staff. I kept the taxi phone number if I missed the last bus back.
