  Unremarkable - but fine

  I stayed here for two nights May 2014 for business. It's a decent option if you don't want to pay the far higher prices of Essen or Dusseldorf. I'd have to say the hotel has absolutely no character at all, but my single room was very large with a large, clean ensuite. The walls are a bit thin - I could hear the guy next door snoring! Make sure you book a room at the back, some rooms overlook the main road and are noisy, luckily I had a quiet room. It's very good value for money - hence the rating. Also, for food, try the restaurant 5 minute drive away run by the Croatian guy - excellent food well priced - ask reception about it as it's not noted in the booklet in the room.

  Hotel U - a good stay

  I traveled to Mulheim for two weeks on business. The Hotel was clean and comfortable with a friendly, helpful staff and a fantastic breakfast. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was the restaurant did not serve in the evening. However, the hotel is located within walking distance of several eating places and there is a pizzeria next door. I would recommend the Hotel U to business travelers and tourists alike.

  Did it's job - unremarkable but would stay again.

  Stayed here for 4 nights to travel to the Messe in Essen. Hotel clean and comfortable and room relatively spacious. Breakfast buffet had a good choice. Pillow was typical german square pillow and thus not very good by UK standards. Location is a bit out of the centre of town with only Pizza place (very good value) in front of hotel, kebab shop and Chinese (including buffet) within walking distance. Car park on site though. Didn't take advantage of spa/pool.

  We (2 adults, 1 child and two tiny dogs) have stayed at hotel U and were very dissapointed.

  We were extremely disappointed with the Hotel. The swimming pool was ice cold and when I complained to reception I was told "the boss likes to save money and doesn't see the point of heating it". Our room was satisfactory at best and the one day it even stunk of smoke, meaning the cleaners must have used our room as a cigarette stop. When I mentioned that at reception I was given some aerosol to take away the smell. You couldn't make it up! We had booked a week and I regretted every minute. When I was back in England I wrote a complained to management and gave them a chance to reply or say sorry about us not being able to use the pool (that's the only reason we booked this hotel as my little girl wanted to swim!) but Hotel U did not even have the decency to reply to our mail, say sorry or make any attempt to communicate with us. I have never stayed anywhere this bad before and will certainly never go again. Don't go there, it sounds good that they have a pool but it was unbelievably cold and the sauna isn't on unless you book it! It's a joke.

  Disgusting smell of smoke everywhere. Cant breath!

  The stench is dreadful. Like sleeping in an ashtray. No room spray provided by the reception will kill this kind of long term smoking in a room and hallway stench. It reeks everywhere, Im nauseated. Sleep forget it. I wish I had a gas mask! Never again.
