  The Japanese Countryside - adjust your standards to both sides

  Staying in this hotel was an unforgettable experience. A lot of this hotel is not what you might expect - no matter how experienced a traveller you are. To begin with the most important: they have really strange pricing policies. Do NOT trust Booking.com on this one. You are not paying for the room (usually based on the max amount of people possible), you are paying per person! So, if you book a 4-persons room it is more expensive for four persons, then if you get a four persons room for three people. Strange, but true. Furthermore, do not expect your classy, hypermodern facilities as in cities. The hotel is old, but that adds to its charm. The rooms are partly Japanese tatami. Breakfast is no buffet, but a fixed menu that changes everyday. The food is good and tasty, though! The hotel is very big, so there is only free WiFi in the lobby. The airco is very good, which is necessary in sometimes very hot Unzen. The major asset of the hotel is its staff. What lovely people! Very, very helpful. Is it raining? A man brings you to the bus. Can't read the 100% Japanese menu of a nearby restaurant? A lady of the staff walks with you to the restaurant and explains for you. No Cola Zero? They walk you to a nearby automat. Would I go again? Yes, but being well informed adds to the pleasure. Big time.

  Big room, Nice place, perfect staff!

  With fantastic help from the hotel staff was we shown to our room, who is a classic, old japanese room. The facilities was old, and you could easily see that it was old; but that might be what adds to its charm. The room might be the biggest hotel room I have ever been in, so the size was good. The windows was quite noice when there were some wind, and this is something they should fix. The hotel is close to the center of the small village, and the are many ways to get around to nearby places that should be visited. The biggest experience I have from this hotel is the staff. They will do almost everything they can to help you out with every problems you might have. Their english is not perfect, but you will get around. Staying in this hotel was an unforgettable experience. I also recommend to use their unsen, who was nice. Breakfast is a fixed menu for every day served in classic japanese style. The food is good. The hotel is big, so there is only free WiFi in the lobby. If I gonna recommend this hotel for others, then it will be because of the staff, who were perfect, and not the price or room.

  This ryokan is a Western-style rooms which can be used also foreigners. Select the ingredients of Japanese food, is delicious hospitality dish. It is high inn the Quality Hotel that can be relaxed stay It could be satisfied in all

  The hotel is very big and has long long corridors and so depending on the room you stay, it takes several minutes to go to Hot spring, Restaurants, Reception which are apart from each other. Maybe good for Tour groups but not for a solo traveller like myself. The dinner and breakfast served had many different kinds of dishes but almost all of them were tiny so it would be better to reduce number of dishes and maintain the volume of each dish. The nearest bus stop ''Besshoguchi'' is a little bit tricky so it is better to go to Unzen Eigyosho which is the main terminal.

  Haunted hotel with poor meals

  I booked this hotel because it was stated as new opened on the booking site. When I arrived the hotel, I was shocked to see its outlook was really old. (I googled it in Japanese afterwards and noticed the hotel was actually opened in 1940s and only got some renewal after the hotel was bankrupt a few years before...) Staff was nice and we were arranged to a room with a nice view. I booked a Japanese and western room. The room is big and clean though the toilet is old and not so tidy. When I get into the room (about 5pm), I heard some noise from the window which I thought is made by wind. I didnt give much thoughts at that moment. I went out for dinner in hotel and some walking afterwards. The dinner here is buffet which serves many different kinds of food. It looks good but tastes bad. After some walking, I went to the hot spring at the fifth floor. I doubt if it was really hot spring water though theres sort of certificate showed in the hotel. When I got back to my room, the noise I heard before was still kept disturbing me for a whole night, it sounds like someone tried to draw my attention by making noises, it wasnt some noise made by wind as I thought. I then realized it came both from window and wall. It never stopped until sunrise. I hardly slept much and felt bad so I went to breakfast earlier. The breakfast was horrible as the dinner before. The hotel check out time is 12:00 noon but I was hardly stayed for another minutes so I left at 8:00am and went for some sightseeing in Unzen. Seems many hotels in Unzen were no longer operating. I drove away to Obama before 10:30. I think the city was a bit haunted (the hotel is no doubt absolutely haunted). My legs were cramped since my car arrived hotel and it didnt get better until I drove away from Unzen. Nagasaki is great but I wont recommend anyone to stay overnight in Unzen city. The sight from Unzen Hell looks amazing and the cats there are adorable. Not much people other than sightseers and those who worked in Unzen.
