    Location, location

Snuggled right in the old town square, this is the perfect location for exploring the old town. We took two adjoining rooms, parents and two adult daughters. Beautiful rooms overlooking the square. Very comfortable, very friendly staff. Whilst a bit more than we planned to spend on accommodation, worth it. Remember quoted prices often do not include taxes, and there is an additional "town tax" of 2.5 euros per person.

Lovely hotel in an ancient medieval building

Quedlinburg is a dream of an old town, most of its buildings are more than 500 years old. Hotel Theophano is spread over several of these buildings on the main square. Once you get to your room through a maze of stairwells and corridors you will be pleased with a large, well appointed bedroom and a spacious bathroom with a tub. Generous breakfast buffet. Free courtyard parking nearby. Don't miss out on the guided night tour and on a ride with a steam engine train on the Selketal Bahn.

Great room with views of the market square

We stayed in the top attic family room in August which had amazing views of the market square. Would love to go back at Christmas, it would be magical. There is no lift and stairs are difficult if you have mobility issues. Recommend packing light for your stay. The room was well appointed and comfortable beds. The photos online truly reflect the room booked. The reception lady was extremely friendly and helpful upon check in with excellent English. Refreshing to be greeted this way after a long day of driving. Upon request gluten free bread was provided with the breakfast buffet. Quedlinburg is a beautiful place and the locals are so friendly, thoroughly recommend a visit.

    Perhaps we were unlucky

This hotel has a great location (so I thought while booking it). And indeed while the location is very good (which I know now all of the hotels in Quedlingburg have given you can cross town in any direction in a 15 min walk) the rest left us to desire for more. First of all parking. It is absolutely impossible to find the parking with the directions hotel provided on their website and in the confirmation e-mail. If you follow their special Weingarten 22 address, you'd end up in a narrow dead end street where the only parking is of a private residence. We had to call them to get completely different directions for a parking, some 800 m drive away. What does the address have to do with it we only found out upon exiting the parking - it is the address of the gate, which leads you to it but only accessible by foot through a giant medieval looking door. Nothing on it suggests there is a parking behind it (and even if it would, there is no chance to get through it by car). Second, what I thought was a nice google.translate glitch on the website about the parking being a 'Use at your own risk' one, suddenly all made sense once we got to it. It is basically in the middle of a half ruined building. To be honest I had some doubts about finding the car in one piece the next day. Okay, so we finally reach the hotel. I booked a comfort room for a nice view of the square. Well... its more like view on the wall of the building next to the hotel with a small glimpse of the square. I attach a photo to show exactly what I mean. Another nice surprise: we had to choose a breakfast seating time slot, and because the hotel was apparently full (or so we were told) we had to be done with our breakfast before 9 o'clock. You'd think if you get a room without a view, maybe they will at least try to be nice to you with breakfast timings? But noooo.... By the way, we did arrive at 2pm to the hotel, so either they were full with people who stay there for days (what to do in Quedlinburg for more than one day?) or else I don't know how to explain our luck. I have no complaints about the room except for the view which I expressed earlier. It was of decent size and well equipped. The breakfast however added to the general disappointment. In an otherwise empty restaurant we got the worst possible table, almost at the reception desk. Cause when you get a room without a view and have to get up at 8 am to have breakfast, why try to ease it up by at least giving you a good table, right? Now, I understand its difficult times now and they try to limit guests movement in the breakfast area, so plates with cold cuts and bread are brought to your table. But why then do you have to go get your butter yourself? Also our cold cuts/bread basket had most stuff in twos. Like two pieces of sausage/ham/etc. In that happy universe of twos, one slice of salmon and one croissant felt very lonely I bet... And then there was a fruit platter with a fine touch of mold (photo attached) that put a nice exclamaition mark to our breakfast experience. Upon check out the room and the city tax had to be paid separately. For the latter they would only accept cash. So much for the contactless payments in these difficult times... In other words, if you plan to feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay, I'd choose to stay elsewhere if I was you. In such difficult times as tourism is industry going through at the moment you'd expect something better.
