Not a good place in summer

This hotel is conveniently located on the outskirts of St. Etienne, but in hot summer weather, it badly needs air conditioning. It is clean and modern, and the staff one meets (at reception) are helpful. Breakfast is quite basic and 100% self-service.

    Middle Of Nowhere

Booked this in desperation as we were attending the Euros at St Etienne but in hindsight we;d have been better staying in Lyon and travelling. This is a 25 minute walk from the Ricamarie train station and has nothing round about it unless you consider a small shopping centre a fun place to visit! Handy for the motorway but about 15/20 minutes in a taxi (25 Euros) so not close to anything really. I would imagine that this is used by business travellers as it has no redeeming features for any tourist. The place is clean enough and rooms are basic and functional but it reminded me of a large portakabin. Our room was miniscule and we had to empty one bag at a time due to space restrictions. My bed was in a sort of mezzanine floor above the room (an awful way to design a hotel) and was up a set of steps that a Sherpa would have a problem negotiating and coming down those steps would be a real danger to any kids or elderly. As I was up in the gods it was roasting hot and during the height of summer it would be intolerable. Advice: pay the extra and stay in a decent hotel in St Etienne.

    Very Basic hotel

I do not recomend this hotel and would advise to book this hotel for max 2 nights or for long stays as a very very last resort The Hotel is located out of town on a hill with only the La Boucheri restaurant next to it in walking distance. There is a lift or 2 flights of stairs to both the reception and restaurant from the large free carpark. Reception is very informal. The decor throughout seems very drab and dull in my opinion. Rooms are on 3 floors with no internal lift to access that I could see. I was booked for 2 weeks by my company and was initially given a room on the lower floor (carpark level) my analogy was like going into a dungeon. Poor lighting in corridors and looked and felt like metal doors on rooms. The room size was adequate but window small with a view of a main road and off ramp. There are no drawers or a closed wardrobe to put clothes. The TV was the smallest I have ever seen on the wall of a hotel 18-19 inch, there were no English Channels available. As I was there for 2 weeks I asked for a room change with a better view which after much discussion by the 2 people on reception was granted on the floor above. Same room layout with just a higher view of the road. Rooms on otherside of hotel had view of the valley. The room had an old smell of smoking in my opinion. Luckily the course I was on was cancelled for the second week. However as booked through Booking.com full payment, no refund was available. Not the hotel fault but really don't do it as you may lose in the long run and can't change if poor. Buffet breakfast was very poor for 9 euro. Very basic choice. 2 cereals muesli and coco crisps and lukewarm milk from a carton. Coffee machine okay Orange and apple juice chilled from machine. Strangely 2 toasters but only batons for bread. The only spoon available was a teaspoon so had to be used for cereal and coffee. The bar is an extension of the reception it does have a large TV high up on the wall. On a positive note the rooms were clean and staff friendly though could have been more helpful. Not value for money!

    Great place

We stayed in the room for 4 people, usually, this kind of room can be small and at the end, it feels like there is not enough air for everybody. But in this hotel, the ceiling is really high due to the fact that one bed is upstairs. We could sleep very well and above all, THERE IS A REAL BATH in the room! This is a real value!!
