  Nice quiet hotel

  Hotel is located between the gorge and the Takachiho Shrine. We almost miss the hotel when driving to it because it didn't look like a hotel from the outside, thought it was a clubhouse or something. Staff are courteous and eager to assist,but not all are fluent in english. We had a western room on the 3rd floor .The room was spacious with a nice scenic view overlooking a bridge from the balcony. Bathroom was a bit gloomy but we didn't use it much since we went for the public bath instead Our booking included dinner which was very satisfying. Only bad point was the strong smell of cigarette in the common corridor. Think smoking is allowed within the building. On the good side, an air purifier is provided in the room, so the smell is gone once we return back to the room. Overall a good hotel for a good night's rest

  Overrated

  Stayed with family for 1 night and booked 2 rooms. Checked in at 4pm and wanted to book dinner. Front desk says cannot. Asked if 1 of the rooms could be upgraded to a western style room, said higher price. Asked them if I could book breakfast for next day, it is 1500Y per person, the most expensive breakfast rate of my whole Kyushu trip, and it is not even a luxurious hotel. Cannot really see gorge from room cos blocked by trees. Tried walking down to gorge, and the only way is the winding road used by cars which is too long to walk. Gave up eventually. There are better options.

  Spick & span hotel

  Spacious hotel with big dining hall. Rooms are typical Japanese size. Service is efficient and friendly. Onsens are available. Dinner was generous. Its near the Takachiho gorge which is simply gorgeous.

  Overall alright

  The main reason I chose this hotel is because it had an onsen on-site. I know there is a nicer and newer hotel up the road. We booked 2 rooms, a tatami room and the western room. According to my family the western room look a bit better (not as worried out). Though we were in non-smoking rooms, and maybe because we opened the doors / windows, it felt almost as if we were in smoking rooms (not sure is because the rooms below were smoking rooms, or someone was smoking nearby). Overall it was an alright experience, I did have a little bit of a hard time booking, as the hotel was not replying to my emails nor willing to accept my booking over the phone. Almost missed the entrance of the hotel as I mistakenly thought it was the culture centre.

  Nice Takachiho Hotel

  Nice hotel conveniently located near many Takachiho sights. Has meal options - breakfast consists of Japanese selections plus scrambled and hard- boiled eggs with Vienna sausage and ham while dinner was a very tasty selection of different Japanese foods (e.g., Wagyu beef, chawan mushi, broiled salmon and mackerel, tofu). The hotel provided a shuttle to the Kagura play. They also provided cushions , which were nice since you sit on tatami mats for the one-hour performance. The onsen was nice but basic. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
