  Beware cancellation fees

  Please see the attached photos. Unfortunately, some unrelated complications forced me to cancel my reservation. I notified the front desk staff in person of my intention to cancel, which prompted them to immediately begin scribbling on a sheet of paper a list of what I owed them. The words "cancel fee" were mentioned, but that and "please pay" was the extent of their English vocabulary. I was taken aback when I learned that I would need to pay the equivalent of about $110, for a room I didn't stay in, before I even had the opportunity to check into. No mention of cancel fees was made either on the reservation form I filled out, or verbally during the booking when I asked what would happen if I needed to cancel. Sunset American is a CASH ONLY business. They take no other form of payment, so to their merit, they allowed me to visit an ATM and return later. As for the room itself, their website has plenty of videos and photos to show you what you get. Being a cash-only hospitality business in 2016, and not being up-front about their policies/fees prevents me from recommending them, no matter how "nice" the view is.

  Fantastic friendly clean budget hotel

  This is a really friendly hotel run by Japanese people who speak some English and are really friendly. We met the owner, a young man who is an honourable gentleman, who was very polite and kind to us, in spite of the fact that we were foreigners. The rooms are small but excellent. Clean and have nice sea views. All rooms have balconies and the sea view is amazing. The cafe downstairs is a little weird, but really nice. Everything there is a little strange- but this is because Japan is Japan and it is different. I love this difference. This hotel also has laundry and snack machines and a teeny shop below. All in all - great value for money. I will return.

  Comfy and welcoming

  This hotel was absolutely welcoming. I had a night stay and felt totally comfortable. The receptionist was very friendly and check-in was fast. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. I think all rooms had the seaview which is like an added bonus. Quiet neighborhood. Bathroom was clean. My top choice if I'm coming back to chatan!

  Incredible views, great value

  My wife and I stayed at Hotel Sunset American while visiting friends on Okinawa. The regular room we had offered the best views of an ocean we've ever had from a hotel room. The price was unbeatable, especially compared to other hotels in the area. It's not the fanciest hotel, but it's clean, comfortable, and has all the amenities you'd need in a room.

  Great Hotel & Excellent Value

  Just stayed at Sunset American on a diving trip with Reef Encounters. The dive shop recommended this place and it was a great value and short walking distance as well. The value was excellent. Close to many activities in this part ok Okinawa. Lots of Places to Eat nearby.
