Meeting FriendsOur booking for three nights was made by our German friends who are regular visitors to the area although they had not stayed at this hotel before. The hotel was easy to find just a few Kms from Konstanz the capital of the area. It is part of, a nunnery although seperated as a building, from the main buildings. There is some building work going on but this does not interfere with the Hotel. The Hotel was built within the last two years , it is modern light and airy and has been designed with some thought and is particularly handicap friendly. The hotel has a chapel and silent areas and although the nuns are actively invovled they are not the customer contact. Car parking is not allowed close to the hotel so it is a matter of unloading and taking your car down the road for say 500yds and walking back...it could be a problem. The parking is not secure. The rooms are of a reasonable size with small balconies, you pay a premium for those facing Lake Konstanz. The bathrooms donot have a bath with a shower and wrap around curtain on a wetroom principle, which does not work particularly well. The towels are adequate, nothing more. There is a small 5 channel tv in the bedroom,no english programmes. Also an internet free point with the appropriate lead available from reception, I could not get it to work. Our biggest complaint was that there was no air conditioning in the whole of the building, why this should be in such a modern building I would never know. The bedroom was doubleglazed with a large windowdoor onto the balcony that was fitted with a fly screen for when the door was open, however this was not at all convenient for walking on and off the balcony when it was heavily infested with mosquitoes. We found the room difficult to keep cool, airless and not able to use the balcony and take advantage of the view over the lake. We had the inclusive continental breakfast, which was adequate and various snacks but had our main meals out. Beers are served but I am not sure about other alcholic drinks. The place is run as conference centre with rooms and I did not feel as though I was on holiday. Silverhead

Need a reason to visitThis is an average hotel. It is in the country but still close enough to the main road to Constance that you always hear cars. This small town is built around a monestary and this hotel is, in fact, run partly by nuns. The region around Lake Constance is littered with monasteries and this particular one happens to run a hotel. It seems like a fine place for weddings and family events but though there is a bus stop you'll need a car to get anywhere. There are woods nearby and if the weather is good, you can hike light trails. The hotel itself is clean, modern and well maintained. It is, though, a 20 min drive to Constance. A bus and train are nearby and run once per hour or so. I came for a family event but won't come back. Not because it's not pleasant, just there is no compelling reason to be in this area at all. I seem to be in the minority however because it was fully booked in late September. Ask for a quiet room facing away from the street. Parking is 100m away from the hotel on a hill so drop your bags first then park.

Came for work conference, but will gladly return for pleasureWe were here for a week, taking train from Zurich, with switch to local train in Constance. This quaint place is about 10 minutes by train to Constance so quite easy to go see many sights there and from there as a starting point. The hotel is simply lovely, at the top of the hill from the train. This hotel is run by Nuns, and adjacent is a monastery and church and certainly worthy of taking a tour with one of the nuns. The hotel has a cafe, a restaurant, which we had breakfast and dinner every day and every meals were great. The hotel is very clean and well cared for. The rooms are well appointed, the beds were very comfortable, and the place is very quiet. The sliders/full length windows open so there is always clean, and fresh air. The staff were all lovely, welcoming, and they run a really lovely gem of a hotel. Took the train to Constance several days/evenings for various excursions including taking a boat trip around the lake and stoping at various points of interest and historical sights. There are a couple museums in Constance worthy of a visit as well. If we are in this area of Germany again, we would certainly just come to this hotel for holiday.

A place to relax and rejuvenateWe had a lovely week here for a small family reunion. The weather was beautiful and we were able to have all meals on the quaint garden terrace. The rooms are beautiful and we slept like a rock on the wonderful mattress. Staff are extremely attentive and friendly. The food is fresh and local and has something for every taste: only request I would have: please mark each food/bowl with respective ingredients to allow guests with food allergies to make the right choice. A real plus is the location. We only used the car once during the week for a visit with friends in Switzerland. The guest-card allows free rides on the local train (5 minutes by foot). The hotel has a private beach within less than 10 minutes walking distance. Lots of different options for day trips. We will come back.
