    Perfect location terrible hotel

We stayed at hotel Sorrento from 24th Dec until 28th Dec and was not worth the money. Room was amazing with beautiful ocean views, was above the beer garden so room smelt like smoke when we arrived had to shut the windows wasnt a big deal though. Day we checked in someone from the hotel rang me to say there was lots of renovations and for the mess they had drink cards for us, never received them which is odd to call and tell us that then. When we arrived we were told we would receive (as paid for) 2 gluten and dairy free breakfast baskets everyday. Day 1 we got 2 both not gluten or dairy free so we wouldnt eat and went in the Bin, next day was Christmas Day and no breakfast arrived which the following day I told staff and they didnt even care she said of yes we made a mistake, I also let her know about the gluten and dairy mix up, following day they got it right 2 GF and DF baskets, then on our final morning wrong again only 1 basket and not GF or DF so went in the bin again. The worst thing about our stay was the beds. We both had terribly sore backs after sleeping in the beds and couldnt walk or even put on our shoes properly. We also ate at the hotel and food was ok its basically pub food. Staff were friendly but kinda in their own little world not too bothered to work. We will not be back.

    One night at Hotel Sorrento

We stayed at the hotel for one night in February, in a heritage room with balcony. The hotels location is perfect, close to the main street, the water and the ferry terminal. The building is beautiful thanks to its historical old stone main building. Many sections have been added during the last years, especially to accommodate the renown pub, its large restaurant, and busy bar. There is no loungeroom and all spaces seem to be driven by the importance of pub context. A swimming pool will be added during 2020. The room was spacious, clean and well-appointed with a clear effort towards contemporary decoration. The view was fantastic, the spacious balcony provided comfortable lounging chairs. Good bedding despite the very soft mattress. There is a coffee machine that does quite decent coffee. As we stayed on a week night, we had no problem with noises from the pub that was not full. The price for the room was A$ 400, and it obviously has been renovated quite recently. For this amount, one would expect luxury, in comparison to other luxury hotels in Australia. However, this is not the case although website and management insist on the appellation. The appearance is doing justice to the promotion, but a lot is missing to classify the hotel amongst luxury hotels. It is a family owned complex, and the management seems to give a lot of importance to the pub to the detriment of the hotel that is in need of additional renovation: staircase, corridors, furniture outside the rooms are not presented well, and the reception area is lacking character. In the bathroom, while little soaps and earplugs are provided, and the towels are of a decent quality, there was no body lotion, no hand cream, no cotton pads, etc. and the toilet paper was of the cheapest quality. Towel rack and bathroom sinks are wobbly; the glass plank above the shower has not been cleaned for a long time. In the bedroom, one of the two bulbs above the bed was not working; as reception closes before the end of the afternoon, we had to ask the restaurant manager to fix the problem, which he did, picking a bulb from a room that was not occupied. There was no vertical mirror (one could easily be added inside the wardrobe door); and the door handle of the French door opening on the balcony was left in my hand. The restaurant is nicely decorated. Guests have to go to the kitchen counter to order food, and to the bar to order drinks, and pay each at the same place, as it is not possible to put the amount on the room bill. However, food was brought to the tables. Maybe the Covid context is responsible for this, which was not explained to us. However, it is not a restaurant but a pub and once this fact acknowledged, it is a decent pub. From the menu, the dessert I chose was supposed to be accompanied by berries, but it came with one old strawberry. The manager did not apologise but brought a little bowl of berries upon our expressing disappointment. In summary, given the extraordinary potential of the place and the popularity of Sorrento, it has been a disappointment for us. It would not take a lot for the management to improve on the current weaknesses; nevertheless, the impression we got was rather that the future is looking more at expanding in size rather than on quality.

    Best value

Our luncheon was excellent right from the get go with an efficient and accommodating phone booking. The staff were pleasant , attentive and informative. The menu presented a range of options both financial and serving size. which suited us well. Our meals were excellent, looked delicious, tasted delicious and served at the correct temperature. Obviously, all the renovations add to the ambiance of the venue and the coastal views a bonus. At present a lot of building on site so parking was a bit difficult but not a major inconvenience. Will definitely return for future dining.

    Interesting stay

Well where shall I start.... Reception not opened past 5:00pm. We did receive a phone call from Sam letting us know what was happening and a text with the code to get into the safe where are keys were. We ere also given directions on where to park. The room itself was lovely great Scandi feel and everything looked lovely. We tried to use the phone to call reception to find out about breakfast. Found that the phone was not plug in and neither was the bed side lamps. When I picked up the phone it was covered in dusty. As we could not speak to anyone at reception as it was closed we thought we would ask at the bar or restaurant, we ran into a lovely young lady that got a manager for us which turned out to be Sam who quickly let us know that there was no cooked breakfast it was a breakfast pack which would be delivered to our room. Oh well ... so we decided to have a drink at the bar which was an experience, I think we were way to old for the night club crowd ... 7:40pm and the night club was happening, drunk young people falling over and still let into the bar. We checked out the ground floor bar and it was a night club that felt like it was time for last drink and the music was pumping. We headed upstairs to the roof top bar, which had the music still pumping and in full night club swing at 7:50pm we asked one of the security if there was a place for a quiet drink and he suggested the beer garden. So we headed down there, which was also in full night club mode. We then spotted the front bar which was a bit quieter. We spotted a nice spot looking out at the ocean. I headed to the bar for a couple of drinks, I ordered two Pinot and young man that served me us lovely and professional. However when I got to the table and tasted the wine it was a very interesting Pinot.. I think more a Cab Sav, oh well a drink was nice and the view was beautiful. However when I tried to lift my hand up to pick up the glass I found that it had stuck to bench felt like the bench had not been cleaned this year. Time to head off to our room which I was hoping would be our sanctuary. To our surprise the night was still happening in bed room the music from the bar was sooo loud that we felt like we were still at the bar... the wooop woop loud laugh and music meant that our bedroom was rocking...... it is now 10:17pm and the music is soooo loud that I feel like I should pop on my party dress and start dancing. Well the clock stuck 10:30 and music stopped but unlike Cinderella no one ran away and drunker laughter a s yelling g filled the air. When we heading off to bed my husband tried to switch on the lamp and he brushed out a layer of dust on to me that gave me an asthma attack. We then thought we would have a cup of tea and found that we were allowed only on English breakfast tea and two sugars for two people. The lovely information book was beautifully designed but didnt have any information or instructions on restaurants hours or how to operate the tv. But it did info on how to use the wifi... lucky I never give up and figured out how to get the TV working. If you are looking a quiet weekend maybe stay somewhere else. However if you are a 20 something and want a weekend away of drinks and DJ music this is the spot for you.

    Wonderful

Stayed here a few times when grabbing a few days break here and there from Melbourne. Worth a treat to get a good room with balcony. Corner room works. Wrap around balcony with lounges for reading and dozing. Views to the water. Downstairs the pub is very well run. Great casual restaurant. Busy bar with TAB. Short walk to main street. The staff are outstanding. Clearly well trained and obliging. Room with ensuite has everything needed for a comfortable stay. Sets the standard for boutique pub accomodation.
