A nice stay.Having stayed in Sanur many times over the years we thought wed give Hotel Segara Agung a try this trip. This was our first time in this particular pocket of Sanur and overall we liked our 8 night stay here quite a lot. As with any hotel, it wasnt perfect and there were some areas where I thought they could make improvements. I like to deal directly with hotels rather than booking sites. Ketut the manager was very prompt with his emails. One thing I liked was that they didnt require any deposit to secure our booking and Ketut gave me a price reduction for a long stay in low season. We originally booked a Deluxe Room #6, but on arrival (late at night) we found the room not really to our liking. The bathroom was very, very tired and desperately in need of an upgrade. There were no power points that werent already being used (couldnt charge our tablets and phones unless we unplugged the fridge, TV or bedside lamps) and the aircon rattled a bit. But it was the hot sun belting in through the non block-out curtains at sunrise the next morning that sealed our decision to move to another room. I went to reception and managed to upgrade to a vacant ground floor Junior Suite #23 for a small fee which was an excellent move. These newer rooms are much nicer and worth the extra cost. Larger room, cleaner bathrooms, satellite TV, lounge chair, desk/vanity, extra storage, plenty of available power points, etc.etc. WHAT WE LIKED - The hotel grounds were lush, tropical and very pleasant to walk through. - Being off the main road and down a lane there was no traffic noise at any time of day. Sleep quality was excellent. - Our Junior Suite was clean and modern. - You could leave all your valuables in a safe at reception. - The staff were always nice and friendly. - The proximity to just about everything was a real plus. Once you hit the end of the driveway it was only 200m to the beach with about a dozen great restaurants and bars or 300m in the other direction to the main road for more great restaurants, moneychangers, ATMs, massage salons, shops, small supermarket for supplies, laundry, cafes and taxis. Everything you need is no more than 5-7 minutes walk away in any direction - Not charging the usual 2-3% credit card fee when paying the final bill. WHAT WE DIDNT LIKE - Even though the breakfast was adequate (juice, coffee, fresh fruit, cereals, fried rice, bacon, eggs, toast and pastries) it never varied at all, ever during our stay. Towards the end we were paying for breakfasts at one of the excellent cafes (Asoka or Dusk Blue) nearby because we were getting really tired of the same breakfast fare every day. - The pool area, although a nice spot with loungers and umbrellas, is not shaded at all by any trees. This meant the pool got very hot during the course of the day under the strong sun. The water temperature in the afternoon was literally like getting into a hot bath. Not very refreshing in the Balinese heat when you really need to cool down. All in all though it really was a nice stay at Segara Agung and if they could just manage to keep the sun off the pool we would seriously consider becoming longtime repeat guests.
